I think you're reading too far into the statement. Our society is racist, and competitive, but the statment doesn't necessarily mean that competition is a flaw.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's why I'd like to see it explained.

[ QUOTE ]
It's naive to not see how Obama is being singled out among all the cannidates, democrat and republican.

[/ QUOTE ]

It would be equally naive to not see how Obama has been declared President by the media. And what they build up, they can tear down.

Why don't you email his campaign then?

It would be equally naive to not see how Obama has been declared President by the media.

Um. He's been painted as a potential frontrunner and a stump superstar but he hasn't been declared anything except for dreamy.

Please explain how posting the entirety of the "Black Values System" (not cherry-picking stuff out of context) and posting an article with his thoughts on it is a "smear."

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, for starters, the title of this thread. You said the manifesto was Obama's value system, when it is not. It is an outdated version of the value system of his church.

[/ QUOTE ]

The title of the thread hints at the content and was purposefully made somewhat provacative. But my opening paragraph was unambiguous: "President Obama defended and embraced his church's "Black Value System" in an interview with the Chicago Tribune on Monday. The text of the Black Value System is below. Enjoy."

What makes you believe this document is "outdated"?

[ QUOTE ]
I think that saying our society is racist is a little over the top, but black people certainly have to deal with racism and competitiveness.

[/ QUOTE ]

Black people have to deal with competitiveness? Oh, the horrors! It's called life in America, deal with it.

Jesus christ. They're just saying they don't want their kids warped by racism and the competition to get ahead in society. They support the pursuit of a good "middle income" but not of class distinctions that cause you to ignore those who have less than you.

If you want to hyperventilate and get hysterical, go ahead, but this is middle of the road stuff.

I wish those insane Jesus Freaks would quit helping the less fortunate. It would help bolster your case.

What the hell are you talking about? Did I say anything about jesus freaks? Anywhere? No. Anything dismissive of religious belief? No.

There is no evidence that Obama has adopted any of the weirder elements of the manifesto.

[/ QUOTE ]
This is a good point. Being a member of a group does not mean the person agrees with everything that group ever said.

I'd say he should just be asked about it. Then judge him based on that. Of course I have plenty of reason not to vote for him regardless, but I wouldn't judge him based on this.

That being said, some of that stuff is pretty strange and delusional.
