I have to agree with Cactus The Duece bus is the way to go for hassle free travel on the strip. No anoying rental car places, crazy vegas driving or huge cab stand waiting lines are needed just hop on and you can get anywhere on the strip relitively quickly.
I discovered the duece last trip when I left the Wynn and the cab stand line was huge, I saw the duece and I hopped right on and was at Bellagio about 5 minutes later.
Great people watching as well!

I'd say stay at the flamingo for location... you end up spending very little time in your hotel room... Luxor had some pretty cool, buy 2 nights get 1 night free dohickies

Another good idea for transportation can be found in the first paragraph of one of the all time greatest 2+2 trip reports.

Thanks for the link. Cool report, for sure.

Bav is right. Vacations are too expensive and too short. That's why you have to get the very most out of them. Feel the experience. Get away from the obvious. Do something different.

The Deuce is one of those. Take your time, watch people, make jokes. Have fun.

Stay at that pink motel with cockroachs across from the IHOP. Ok, don't.

I'd be a cheapass and just stay at the Sahara. It would fairly be considered a dump, but it should be slightly cheaper than the Stratosphere and has a monorail stop. I stayed there for six weeks and actually grew fond of it in some perverse way.

I am so not a baller.

Something that no one seems to be mentioning is the poker room rate, which is good at Excalibur. You would need to play there 5 hours a day.

Excalibur is physically closest of the 3 to the most other poker rooms on the Strip. However, for the $90 you'd save by going with the Strat, you could use bus, cab, or Monorail (from the Sahara nearby) to get to mid-strip where there are poker rooms galore. If prices were closer, I'd go with Excal. But for $90 difference, I'd make 2 daily RT's on public transportation to mid-strip from the Strat.

I am cheap. I like the Excalibur. Close locale to all the South Strip properties (seven minutes from room to MGM poker room). I won't eat there, but I will leave my stuff there. Rooms are sketchy but I won't mind when I'm drunk and tired at 5 am and need a place to crash.

The Deuce is a Godsend. Ride it.

The bike idea isn't a bad one, either.
