Ollie
[ QUOTE ]
Who makes all these murderous decisions? Is it the President and his men, with little oversight? [/ QUOTE ]The executive leadership in the U.S. has the ability and a wide range of authority to engage in subversive action abroad. The U.S. have consistently engaged in such activities throughout the better part of the 20th century. [ QUOTE ] I seem to recall from high school civics that in matters of foreign policy, our President has almost Czar-like powers. [/ QUOTE ]That's quite an exaggeration! [ QUOTE ] But if this is the case, why did Ollie and company have to explain themselves in front of congress during the Iran-Contra scandal? [/ QUOTE ] Because the checks and balances in the American political system are (were) functioning. Mickey Brausch |

Update : Ortega and Ahmadinejad embrace
Polticians will do anything during photo-op, but this embrace could mean a lot a more for the future of Nicaragua or, even more so, the Latin American countries trying to carve a path of their own, than the hardest struggle during the "years of lead".
CNN Now that the two countries have been brought closer, diplomatically and politically, Daniel Ortega will have to distance himself and his party most emphatically, and very soon too, from the anti-semitism of the Iranian leadership. Mickey Brausch |
