Default Re: Ask me about going into people\'s homes to sell them knives.

I worked for Cutco for awhile one summer.

Office meetings seemed alot like Amway meetings, you have to start off selling to people you know and then getting referrals from them and so on, I felt ridiculous trying to sell people these knives when they could get some that did the same job for 90% less at the store, and there was definitely manipulation of the customers.

That said, I sucked at sales and everyone I knew was at best middle class. If your a good talker and you know rich people you can make some good cash.

Also there was definitely manipulation of the customer but then again all sales involves manipulation of the customers.

That appears to be a flimsy stamped serrated blade with a cheap plastic handle.

Have you ever used any high end knives?

What were some common sales techniques, especially those involving customers who were on the fence?

[/ QUOTE ]

There weren't really any "techniques." I just honestly told the customers everything about our knives and then they usually they wanted to buy. Our most popular set was the Homemaker Set and it cost $760 when I was working with the company. It's the set that I sold the most of. A lot of customers didn't want to spend quite that much so we had smaller sets that usually appealed to them.

My % that didn't buy was approximately 18%

Please explain the qualifying process before you were in front of the prospect. I refuse to believe you closed 82% of the time with random propects. No offense, that's just not something that happens.

I totally believed in CUTCO cutlery. We used to say it is the Rolls Royce of cutlery and that is spot on. Anybody who has ever used them will tell you the same thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you really believe this?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes.

[/ QUOTE ]

According to Wiki Cutco is typically not used by professional chefs, why would that be?

What do you consider high end? Wusthof? Henckels? I've used both and I honestly think CUTCO is vastly superior. Cutco knives take a long time to dull and when they do, you send them back to the factory and they resharpen and refurbish all of your knives and the only thing you pay is $10 for shipping and handling.

I still see my old customers from time to time (my parents' neighbors and my aunt's friends) and they always rave to me how much they love their knives.

We targeted customers who were 3M: married, middle-aged and middle income. And of course they were all friends of other customers.

Can you get some speech and tell me why this blows your mind?
