Re: How to play 2/4 Limit in a Casino?
[ QUOTE ]
Some don't even consider this real poker. [/ QUOTE ] As others have pointed out, I think still qualifies as poker, but you have to seriously adjust for the extreme looseness of games like this. On top of that, you also have to adjust for the impact of the rake, dealer tokes, food and beverage service, etc. These are the kind of games you should really play just to break even and have a good time. If you try and grind out 1 bb/hr using Sklansky methods, you'll end up steaming for days about your AA getting cracked 5 times out of 6 (which it will). [ QUOTE ] Seriously though, 2 - 4 limit is easily beatable in the long term for any decent thinking player. [/ QUOTE ] True, but if I'm playing to make money then I'd have to expect to *crush* a 2-4 game to really be willing to put much time into it. Usually, it's just too much effort for too small a return. Just my opinion though. q/q |

Re: How to play 2/4 Limit in a Casino?
Boyd I started at FW 2/4 and moved up to 4/8 after I got about a year's experience of live play. The 4/8 is much more profitable if you have the basics down. If you can afford to move up you should. I find that SSHE is an invaluable tool for this game.
I am a beginner (about 2 years), but I am up about $1300 over the last 5 sessions of 4/8. See you at the 'Woods. Best of luck, Mygtar |

8/16 at Hawaiian Gardens was like that monday night. Seven players to the flop three deep. Action game of the century.

$2-4 holdem is very similar to bingo but you don't have to yell when you win.
You can't be a calling station and expect to win. You have to be able to laydown top pair but you also have to know when top pair is good. |

Re: How to play 2/4 Limit in a Casino?
[ QUOTE ]
When you are a 4:1 favorite, you will lose once every 5 hands and could easily lose 2-3 hands in a row. [/ QUOTE ] Gotta love the internet advice. You "could" easily lose 2-3 hands in a row? Really? But my odds calculator promised me that I'd only lose 1 hand out of 5! I want all my winning hands to come first. |

Just my opinion though. [/ QUOTE ] If you're looking for BB/100, then there is no better game to jack that percentage up than one of these games. These are my favorite games, as they are the games that make me the most profit. I think a lot of people have to realize, though, that in this kind of game, one will often have to lose $200-$300 in order to make $1,000. Knowing when to chase and when not to chase is probably the most important aspect of one of these games (second perhaps only to the importance of when to push and when not to push). |

[/ QUOTE ] I disagree. If someone is having trouble beating the easiest kind of game there is to beat, then that someone should stay at that level until he learns to beat the game. These types of tables exist at every level, though they become more rare as the levels get higher. However, if a player finds he can't learn to bet the no fold'em hold'em tables, he will be throwing a ton of money away by not being able to beat the occasional $4/$8 games that have these exact same textures. The only consideration here is rake, and I don't believe that a person should be very worried about rake until that person can actually give a detailed description of what his winrate is and how the rake affects it. I've found that the only way to consistantly beat the rake at a B&M $2/$4 game is to play at the kinds of tables the OP describes. I have a heckuva hard time beating the rake in a "tight/aggressive" $2/$4 game. |

Some don't even consider this real poker. [/ QUOTE ] I'm assuming this is a joke. It seems that every poker table I've ever sat at has one player who is losing his ass and doesn't consider the game to be "real" poker. |
