If we feel we have the best hand here, why do we not raise it.

[/ QUOTE ]
Because if we are ahead, we are WAYYYY ahead, and it is a trivial fold for pretty much any hand that we beat.

[ QUOTE ]
I am certainly not giving him odds to draw to anything behind us

[/ QUOTE ]
Ohhh kay...

[ QUOTE ]
Otherwise we're in defense mode here

[/ QUOTE ]
We ARE in defense mode. We don't even have top pair...

[ QUOTE ]
allow an aggressive player to control the hand.

[/ QUOTE ]
That is the only way we ever allow him to make a mistake.

betting flop and checking turn are fine of course but it allows us to sooooo easily get bluffed by QQd, TTd, 88d, etc.

[/ QUOTE ]
If we bet the flop, I would rather shove the turn than check behind hoping to blow out those weak aces and prevent bluffs that we can't call profitably, but I prefer the flop check.

HEK, you really think an average (we have no reason to think otherwise?)5-10 player is gonna be bluffing this river here with a pp <KK? i think good players may do it putting us on KK/QQ etc.

My point is, if you play it passively, you can very likely be stuck mucking the river to aggression just as HoldEmKillah points out above. I am not neccessarily just trying to have him stick around with something we beat (which he may, we are viewing this as an unknown and QQ or 1010 is not out of the question) or fold something better, but I want to control this hand and not get shoved off unneccessarily. Do you have any information here based on your play that his river bet is representing an A? What have you played this way that you can call this off with from his perspective? I can see villain bluffing a lot. I don't like not taking the lead with a hand this strong, short-handed and out of the blinds unless I have already put my opp on a strong A, which I have not yet.

I am not happy just checking this down or folding at the river to any non-diamond or K.

Then bet the flop.

I prefer that over how the hand was played.

While I do think that there is some merit in betting the flop, checking the flop, planning to raise a turn bet is quite terrible, IMO.
