Default Re: Anyone want to buy my $200 credit with TJ Cloutier?

My public speaking teacher in college noted something about this.

She said most people say, "Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly, etc."

but she instructed us to just say "First, Second, Third" etc.

She didn't specify whether or not the "ly's" were actual words or not.

Look up "secondly" in the dictionary. It's certainly a word. As for your teacher, I think she was suggesting something good since most peopl say "second-of-all, third-of-all" which, as far as I was taught, is incorrect. I still think "first-of-all...secondly, third(ly)" is acceptable until proven otherwise.

So you need $10 to clear an online bonus yet loan a degenerate you just met $200? Make a thread asking who the most degenerate gambler is and conveniently have a story about loaning him money. Say you write for a paper yet the quality of your sample story is horrible, so you either write a blog p or write for a college newspaper.

I think you should be banned for being either a moron or scammer. Especially considering you registered a month ago, have almost 700 posts and are asking for money.

Having now actually gone back and read the column you posted, I think you may want to find a better one for an example.

Also, "secondly" is not a word.

[/ QUOTE ]

"Secondly" is indeed a word, and in fact it is always correct to substitute it for "second-of-all"

[/ QUOTE ]

I was always taught that it was not; "first" was to be followed by "second", not "secondly"; etc.

Ya but we're not talking about counting, 'secondly' is an adverb and has its place in the English language, whether or not it is often misused is another story.

Put it this way: When have you ever heard "firstly" used?
