Catalanatto's AB's were optimized by platooning.

Are some of you guys really not understanding that the baseball economy has changed? Or, is the only response you're capable of "that's too much to pay for that player"?

Perhaps, at some point, the skeptics should tell who the think were the good free agent signings. ESPN.com's free agent tracker provides a good list.

MLB teams can't overpay every free agent.

Can you do anything other that provide the same ill-conceived and short-sighted response over and over? This is more nuanced than the robotic and ignorant "baseball is making more money than it did a few years ago" response with which you have been spamming the forum.

We're not all the idiots you seem to think we are.

Just in terms of years and $$, not taking into account organizational replacement player (ie. Dodgers, Nomar/Looney, Pierre/Kemp).

Edmonds, Nomar, Thomas, Alou, Helms, Casey, Cora, Wood.

Yes, they in general are getting fine deals, as one would expect. The only contracts that are just awful IMO are 5/55 for Matthews, 4/44 for Pierre, 8/136 for Soriano, and 6/100 for Lee.

Everything else falls in the category of a slight overpay (1/4 for Sean Casey, 3/14 for Alex Gonzales) or a pretty good deal. (4/18 for Speier, 1/8.5 for Alou, 5/75 for Ramirez)

[/ QUOTE ]

The Pierre deal is fine, the Speier deal is terrible.

Or did they not have an accurate forcast of revenue growth at this time last year?

They could get similar prodcution to Carlos Lee for a lot less than 100mm over 6 years. That is why it is a stupid deal, they are overpaying.

[/ QUOTE ]

Going foward, what players who have the same production as Carlos Lee do you expect to sign for less? Are any of those players available this year and what will they sign for?

[/ QUOTE ]

Luke Scott over the next 6 years would cost them, what, 20 million tops?

Not to mention he's younger and better on defense.

[/ QUOTE ]

Luke Scott will still get his chance to be the starter in right field. At least he should. I'll be pissed off if he doesn't.

It doesn't matter how much the Astros offered Beltran. The Astros were being used in negotiations. Beltran never had any intention of re-signing.
