RIP Bo. My dad went to UM, so I grew up cheering for his teams in the 70's and 80's.
I heard a odd/sad/cool thing. supposedly, he skipped out on a cardiologist appointment yesterday afternoon so he could address the michigan team before they left for columbus.

Whether this made a difference or not I dunno, and doubt. But he was a Michigan Man. What we did as AD in 1989 may be among his most memorable moments: Bill Frieder announced he was taking the basketball HC job at the end of the year. Bo fired him immediately, saying "A Michigan Man is going to coach at Michigan." Steve Fisher led the team to the national title.

[/ QUOTE ] To clarify, Frieder had accepted the job at Arizona State at the end of the 1989 regular season, just before the tournament started. When he called Schembechler to give him the news, he was in Arizona and about to fly back to Michigan to prepare for the tournament. Schembechler fired him on the spot, as mentioned above. Frieder traveled on his own to the tournament site and asked Steve Fisher if he could speak to the team. Fisher gathered the team in a hotel room and told them, "there's someone who wants to speak with you." Frieder entered the room, said "I never intended for things to happen this way," and broke down crying. (source: Fab Five, by Mitch Albom)

In 1987, Indiana beat Michigan 14-10 at home in a driving rainstorm. We were obviously stunned and amazed that we had beaten Schembechler. Not Michigan, Schembechler. Great coach. RIP [/ QUOTE ] Not to Hijack, but Indiana actually beat Michigan and Ohio State that year and still managed to miss out on the Rose Bowl.

dont understand why you guys are making such a big deal about the bowl games in those years, the truth is bo didnt really care about the bowl game he just wanted to beat OSU
