You may have geographic tongue, elevated white/gray areas on the tongue, they come and go, some small portion of the population has it. In this condition the white/gray isn't plaque but overcrowded papillae. Brushing until your tongue bleeds can't be good if you have this. Wait, brushing until your tongue bleeds can't be good whatever the hell is going on.

I got some funky antibiotic stuff whenever I noticed some white fungal type [censored] growing on my tongue. May be the same thing you have.
