Re: Vick: Love or hate him?
[ QUOTE ]
LOL at people LOL at me. The RB position has the highest risk of injury by far in the NFL and they are also pretty interchangeable. The difference between a top QB and an average QB is >>>>> than the difference between a top RB and an average RB. (Same with average to bad, you get what I'm saying). It just simply isn't worth it for a team to invest heavily in a RB. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with you UCF. I think part of the problem is that some poeple use over-the-top examples when trying to make a case. Michael Vick is an above-average QB of this era, and a very exciting player to watch. He's nowhere near the best QB in the league though, and doen'st even factor into an "all-time" best discussion. LT2, hovever, is on of the best RBs ever, and he's a great receiver too. I guess my point is that if you were picking a team from scratch (and I don't mean a fantasy team), and recognizing the overvaluing of RBs, then I can see maybe 5 to 10 QB's being picked before somebody said, "the premium QBs are gone," I'm taking LT2. Nobody in their right mind is taking Tony Romo ahead of LT2. Do you acknowlege that at some point in the QB depth pool that taking LT2 would make more sense, even if you got a worse QB because of it? If so, how deep would you go into the current pool of QBs before you said, I'm taking LT2? |

Re: Vick: Love or hate him?
Well it basically comes down to a Value Over Replacement Player question.(VORP - ZOMG STATS)
I think a RB's VORP can only be so high, and many QB's would have a higher rating. I know im just mumbling numbers and many will laugh at me for all this, but whatever. Obviously a guy like LT2 is better than a QB that would be easy to replace, I just don't think Vick is one of those QB's. |

Re: Vick: Love or hate him?
UCF, does your analysis include Vick's most important ability, his ability to fill a stadium?

Add in rushing, and he is about average among starting quarterbacks. Not including this week, Vick has: 1.3 DPAR passing, ranking him 25th. 18.2 DPAR rushing, ranking him 1st. 19.5 total DPAR, ranking him 14th. |

I just acquired him via trade in fantasy so I guess I have to like him now, even though he's playing the Ravens next week.

Big difference between replacement level and average starting QB. [/ QUOTE ] Absolutely. That's why I specifically said he is a replacement level passer, and an average starting quarterback. The vast majority of Vick's value, obviously, comes from rushing. |

Re: Vick: Love or hate him?
He will never win a Super Bowl (as a Quarterback).
He's fun as hell to watch, and use in Madden, but he's too orthodox to ever really "fit" in the NFL, and lead a team to a championship, IMO. The QB has to fit a system; the system can't fit around the QB. It's just too impractical, given the time constraints that a QB has about a 10 year window in the NFL. If ATL cares about championships, they are killing themselves. If they care about selling jerseys and tickets, they may be doing OK. |
