I hear you, I just think Jeff is pointing out that if he's only "above average" then why should he go. Not that I agree with your calling him "above average." He was better than that.

[/ QUOTE ]

I meant that he was above average year in and year out. Some years he was slightly below and some years he was the best or near it. But to take that sort of punishment for so long and still produce is amazing.

[ QUOTE ]
Really, you think he has an argument over Emmitt for 95(and Barry Sanders for that matter)?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I think he was certainly in the picture and it's really hard to tell where he ranks without good play-by-play data. He was a better receiver than Emmitt and a more consistent rusher than Barry. Probably not better than either but it's hard to say on just conventional stats.

The fact that he's even there with them in some of their best years should tell you something.

also, i know character doesn't count for too much, but with all these prick players in the league now, martin's demeanor makes him look even better...

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the selectors put more importance on character than they let on.

It figures too that Pitt would completely screw up relations with CuMa. Great selling point that we have produced 2 of the best RB's ever in the NFL... but 1 of them hates us. Sure that goes over real well with recruits.

Story?

When he wouldn't come back for his senior year, the boosters at the time went on a smear campaign. Drugs, 'roids, injuries, accepting gifts, all kinds of crap. There has been more botched communication in the past too although I don't remember all the details. He really hates Pitt now, and if you know anything about CuMa, hate isn't in his blood.

If Harry Carson is in the HOF, there is no way Curtis Martin doesn't belong.

Harry Carson >>>> Joe Namath

It's not about numbers, and hell, a lot of times it isn't about skill. Canton is about memorable moments, etc.

Come on, he has one moment. Nothing is worth these stats being enshrined for eternity.

People who hate on Mike Vick, I dare you to defend Namath.

Defense: Comparing QBs from that era to this era is retarded.

Because receivers back then had to wear boxing gloves and DBs got to catch off the bounce?
