i find winning a major touranment to be a big boost to the br. well, by 'i find' i mean 'i hear' because i haven't.

Yeah. Winning an MTT is definitely the way ahead. I get slightly nervous thinking about what I'll do if this plan fails one day.

I'd echo most of the comments here. STTs are good. I generally only two table with staggered starts on two different sites.

I also think HU $10-20 SNGs are pretty good.

I also play Stud, usually Pot Limit but some Limit too. Less variance and much weaker players - less so on Stars though. On Crypto, it's just a licence to print money...slowly.

In response to Jurollo's point about long term losers, I suspect that one of the main reasons for this is playing large field tournaments. The Stars rebuys are all very enjoyable but they are not a good way to make money, IMO.

I play 100-300 runner events almost exclusively. I think that's good for BR and good for morale, which in itself is good for BR.

Lastly, pay attention to good 'bets'. IMO, there aren't any good 'bets' on Stars. It's great to play etc. etc. but when do you ever see an overlaid guarantee, or an added, or a rebuy where the vast majority don't insta rebuy or addon?

Of course, if you're American, you may not have this choice anymore but I'd presume that there still must be some good stuff out there, if you look hard enough. Look for sites that are looking for you and give them a whirl.

What is your Crypto site of choice sir?

I am leaning towards giving WillHill a shot later on. But idk...

One thing that actually is very soft on Stars: the 3/8/10 rebuys for the Sunday mill. If you have half a clue about satelite strategy, they're probably among the most +EV tournies for a mid-sized BR.

Lotsa great advice in this thread, man.

Even if you've got a very micro roll ($50 or so), and the patience for it, the 1.2/45's are a good place for the beginner to start.

Degenerates without the disclipine would do well to avoid sites with casinos. That can lead to bad -EV impluse tilt. Heh. (Timex: No matter what, you're always gonna need an infinite roll )

If you've got an edge in more than one game, i.e. sports betting, and are more or less familiar with the Kelly criterion, bet365 and Ladbrokes are good bets. They're reputable and listed on the LSE, and there are lots of $1 FO's and SNG's with pretty weak fields @ the former site, and good daily freerolls, and the raked hand requirements are low enough to qualify for a few more. It's how I discovered NLHE in the first place, burnin' time. And then the wave came. <chuckles>

William Hill. It wasn't exactly a choice - just where I started. I don't know if the deals are platform wide but I like the 'get paid to play' bonus and at the moment (this month) they have an awesome MTT series: the Autumn Windfall. Best bet I've seen for ages - three tournies a night with $5k, $4k and $3k added, which given the field and buyin is a pretty generous overlay.

Basically here's what I would suggest:

You say that your strongest game is tournaments. Then that's where you should focus. Just make sure to stay within your bankroll and practice good discipline and you should be ok.

For those that aren't familiar, even some of today's forum stars and regulars like Exitonly and gobboboy started with $1 tournaments. It was only last year that all 3 of us were playing the micro limits regularly to grind out bankrolls.

I haven't been as dedicated as they were and am still struggling at the middle limits, however because of their dedication they both had to the game they've been able to move on to playing at some of the highest stakes....

So even playing the micro tournaments on a nightly basis is enough to get you started.

SNGs can be a good way to grind out a bankroll, as can NL cash games. I understand your issue with cash games as most 'tournament players' aren't as familiar with playing 100-200bb deep and they end up making way too many costly mistakes. The $4/180s are also a great way to grind out a bankroll as well, especially if you are comfortable multi-tabling them.

Or you could just win a major and take the easy way out.

If you're playing for fun and a little extra money then I'd say the most important thing is to do what you enjoy. If you're truly good at the various formats of poker games then you should be able to make any venture successful with enough practice.

get about 2k from sngs, I grinded sngs and think they are boring and stupid but defenitely money can be made in them and it improves tournament game and basic strategy.

Once your at 2k switch to cash, ideally 25 or 50nl, get up to 200nl and 400nl and watch the profits come in. This is gonna be my first 10k month. If I was playing SNG's still I'd be grinding 16's...cash is where its at

as much as I love NL, I think I am a better tourney player than NL cash

Maybe you are, but there is much lower variance, and variance is the enemy of the bankroll (re)builder.

You can easily make like $12/hr 4-tabling NL25. If you deposit $500, play 25 hours, make $300, start taking shots at NL50, play another 25 hours and make 400-500, instant bankroll for the $10/180s in like 2 weeks worth of work.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea, whatever play SNGs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seriously. These have really low variance, and pushbotting is fun.
