I guess twoplustwo won't be far behind...

Wouldn't they have to stop selling books in those states as well, if that was the case...?

[/ QUOTE ]

Which 2p2 books tell you how to gamble online? Are you guys just forgetting there's such a thing as a B&M casino?

It's not "retarded." They are covering their ass in a legal sense. It's not for your benefit.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um, no. They don't need to cover their ass if all I'm going do is browse their site. Sorry.

[/ QUOTE ]

How are they supposed to know that you're only going to browse their site?

You do know that affiliates have been sent cease/desist letters under state law in Washington even before the UIEGA, right?

I agree that this whole situation is retarded. However, unless you're an internet gaming lawyer, or have at least had extensive consultations with one, I don't think it's really prudent for you to be passing judgement on others' activities in this department.

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay. Please site the legal precedent that makes you think you'd go to prison if I visit your website to read a review of a poker room.

There hasn't been a precedent set, exactly (although a WA affiliate was sent a cease & desist.) However, precedence isn't the issue here.

I'm sure you'll forgive me for not going into full detail here of all the aspects at work (not only would it be time consuming, but it would be a time consuming way to "prove" that BW could be taken as breaking the law, I believe doing all of that would be the most retarded thing yet.)

Regardless, it's obvious you don't have all the facts, and I'd recommend to you that you quit calling people retarded until you're in a position that's not largely (from what I've read of your posts) ignorant. I. Nelson Rose and Chuck Humphrey have both wrote an analysis of the bill, that should help bring you up to speed. I'd also recommend you read the bill yourself, at least once.

I did read the bill (a few times actually) and I could see where there is language that could be interpreted as making it illegal to set up a website that promotes "unlawful Internet gambling" whatever that is since it's still not clearly defined.

In other words, I can see why you did what you did. I just hope I can lie and continue to use your site. It'll suck if I get thrown in jail and anally raped just because I wanted to look up a bonus clearing rate but I guess it'll all part of living in the U.S. now.

Nobody is going to go to jail for visiting our site. It's us providing the site to those who're in a jurisdiction where it's illegal, is where the problem is.

Who needs to cite a precedent? Perhaps they don't want to BE the precedent! And again, how do they know you're only going to READ? If I owned the site, and had legal advice that such a simple solution would keep me out of hot water, I'd be all over it. Besides, who really cares? Just say no to the little dialog box, and move along!

Here's your chance to educate the ignorant. I have a copy of the bill sitting in front of me. All I'm asking is that you point me to the page that might be construed as making it illegal to publish information about online poker rooms. That should be pretty easy for you to do since you've gotten such great legal advice.

Could there possibly be another person in your area who does sign-up for a poker site instead of just read the info...or are you the only one in existence in that region??

So BW is supposed to break new legal ground for your dumb ass?

Will it ever come to that? Probably not. Will BW be better off for having attempted to comply with the law, as far as they can tell? Yes. You're whining like a 6-year-old who just found out he can't do whatever he wants.
