I want a chevrotain.
Right now I have two tiny spiderling tarantulae. One is a Costa Rican zebra leg (A. seemani) and the other is an astoundingly fuzzy and beautifully colored Martinique Pinktoe (A. versicolor). They are as exotic as it gets right now. I would also love to have a jellyfish tank, or some better way of sustaining seahorses. Those things are amazing. |

A lady that lived by a friend of mine used to walk her llama's pretty often in the summer, I thought that was awesome. I seem to remember him saying something about them spitting on people though?

Top 10 Stinkiest Animals
I saw some show on cable where they ranked the top 10 stinkiest animals.
And the fox was on the list. I remember this because it surprised me. The skunk and hyena were also on the list. http://home.alltel.net/ma31148/rev0201.html |

Re: Exotic Pet Thread
Good post, Alobar.
My parents have a license from the state to take care of wild animals that have been abandoned. When I was growing up, we usually had a couple raccoons whose mother had been hit on the road and turned in to the local state park. They were great fun when they were young, but they imprint very easily. We typically only had them until they were either recuperated or old enough to be release back in to the wild. The young raccoons we would get in the spring and gradually release in the fall. Among the animals we took care of: raccoons - super playful and lots of fun, but probably did not survive since they imprinted on humans and were easily caught. I should mention that we only had them as adolescents, and adults are bad-ass and are known to kill cats and small dogs - definitely not pet material. fox - skittish as hell and probably the only one that lived canadian geese - they crashed because their wings froze - very nasty animals great horned owl - also easily imprinted. There's a good story that goes with this one. screech owl - make the coolest sounds, not like screeching at all long-eared owl - we had one for about eight years. A great pet, actually. kestrel - we had two and both died from heart attacks while feeding them red-tailed hawk - never survived the recuperation - I can't remember what injury it was opossum - I don't really remember much other them playing dead - seriously. I feel like I'm missing something, but I think that's it. Let me be clear here - these were not pets. The only one we kept for more than the time needed to recuperate or grow up was the long-eared owl, and that was because he only had one wing. If I remember correctly, he flew into the headlights of a car originally. (Yeah... the whole thing about "wise" owl - definitely not true.) |
