Re: Shaq quote about freethrows
I remember hearing that he broke his wrist as a kid and it never healed properly. It doesn't have a full range of motion, hence the shotput-like "hook shot" and lousy free throw stroke.

Re: Shaq quote about freethrows
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] If, starting now, Shaq shoots at a 70% clip, does he easily become the best player of all-time? I think the answer is yes. [/ QUOTE ] No. [/ QUOTE ] I mean, not currently, but it would make his career the best of all-time, and he would be enshrined as the best player of all time. |

Re: Shaq quote about freethrows
[ QUOTE ]
Why doesnt a less famous player who also sucks at free throws try it underhanded? Maybe Shaqs entire team could shoot underhanded freethrows in an exhibition game just to encourage him, haha. [/ QUOTE ] If he had wanted to do it he would have kept his practicing quiet and then busted out a few in a blowout as a "joke". If he makes them hes got an excuse to carry it on into the next game, if not he can blow it off as a funny moment. |

Re: Shaq quote about freethrows
When Shaq was still on the Lakers he lived in my area. He would practice free throws in the evenings at my old high school when he was working with that old shooting guru dude with the Greek sounding name. (Edit: The guy's name is Ed Palubinskas.) I was a gym rat myself, so I ran into him a few times.
I know it seems unlikely, but he easily shot 85-90% in the four or five hundred free throws I saw him take. It was really bizarre. There is no doubt in my mind that his problem is psychological and not physiological. |
