Re: Missing out on Death Due to Random Act
My dad went for his physical and passed. He moved to the next stage but ran back to the doc who did his physical and asked "Does having a metal plate in my head exclude me?" The answer was yes, son, it does.
And he does have a metal plate in his head. <cue scene from Christmas Vacation> |

Re: Missing out on Death Due to Random Act
My dad was 14th in the lottery.
The random event that saved him: his toes are permanently curled, so he couldn't fit into the boots. |

Re: Missing out on Death Due to Random Act
[ QUOTE ]
big bopper won a coinflip to get on doomed flight with buddy holly at least that's the story according to the x-files [/ QUOTE ] total forgot about this one my buddy in Iraq drove one of those non armored humvees and would have the more heavily armored tank/vehicle behind him. He normally had his good friend in the passenger seat with him, i met him when he came home with Rob for Thnksgiving, but on that day one of the guy in the armored vehicle didnt want to be stuck in it and wanted to ride in the lead vehicle...I'm not sure how they came to a decsion-i think it may have been rock paper scissors or maybe it would just one agreeing but they switched. Drove over a bomb..flipped the lead vehicle...my buddy was reallly really [censored] up...they basically thought he was going to die over the next 3-4 days and has still 3-5 years of surgerys left. The guy in the passenger seat died on impact. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] All this talk about Vietnam draft birthdays made me look up my own (I'm 22.) December 29th = 16th. Creepy. [/ QUOTE ] If anyone else wants to do this, you can look up your own birthday here . from the site: Lottery Numbers, by Birthdate, for Selective Service Lottery Held December 1969 The lottery drawing held December 1, 1969, determined the order in which men, born from 1944 through 1950, were called to report for induction into the military. The highest lottery number called for this group was 195; all men assigned that lottery number or any lower number, and who were classified 1-A or 1-A-O (available for military service), were called to report for possible induction. Basically if your number is 195 or lower, bad beat. /well into the 300s [/ QUOTE ] Ouch, May 20 got nailed in '69 with 183 |

Re: Missing out on Death Due to Random Act
related celeb story (similar to OPs): i fell asleep to the e! channel a while back and woke up to mark wahlbergs life story...he apparently was supposed to be on one of the 9/11 flights, but drove instead.
my second cousin was at the WTC with his family..they were about to go up to visit a friend (or family member, im not sure) with there 5 yo when the first plane hit...i dont think i have the picture anymore but there was one they took of thier kid just as the plane hits...that was kinda scary also, my draft number thing - got 200+ on the first 3, 180 on the last -pug |
