everyone who said he played great fails to see that he probably would have played even greater if he had openraised those hands instead of openlimped.

Maybe, but there was less risk in his strategy. He kept the pots small and prevented all-in reraises on the flop. Not a bad move for a big chip leader, actually. It sure was effective on the day.

In my opinion his strategy worked for one simple reason: The rest of the table was playing weak tight to move up money because the jumps in real cash were immense.

If this had been a more normal pay schedule for a $10k tourney you would have seen the other stacks raising or pushing over his limps forcing him to call with inferior hands or fold. As it was they allowed him to see flops for cheap and then he took down the unwanted ones with bets. It really was a good strategy (in hindsight) given the two critical factors of:
1) his big chip lead
2) everyone wanting to move up the money

when the deck hits u in the face it doesnt matter how badly you play. he reminds me of the average lagdonk at party nl 100.

[/ QUOTE ]

The deck didn't really hit him that hard. Ok, it did early, but he just made some good calls w/ marginal hands and stole a TON of pots w/ really weak holdings. Fact is is that he played nearly perfect poker each and every day and used a strategy that was most appropriate for the time. Once ESPN shows the hole cards I think we'll see how good he actually did play (at least I hope based on his interview).
