Sheff aint coming back
once he realizes that if he reinjures that wrist by playing in the last couple of weeks of the season he'll play it safe.

Especially because of what he saw with D. Lee.

I'm fairly certain that's what I'd have it as, or close.

Abreau goes largely unnoticed as one of the best offensive weapons in the game for years.

Now that he is a Yankee, we can all look forward to his overexposure.

Awesome.

Except the Yankees have had plenty of underrated players.

How can he be overexposed - he's on a team with 3 unquestionably better hitters.

Anyway, I was thinking about this deal and what it means for Melky Cabrera - Abreu only has a year left on his deal after this season, so they can use Melky in around 120 games next year while rotating the DH between Matsui, Giambi, and Abreu. Then Abreu walks and maybe Melky gets put into the lineup full-time. Andy Phillips is a weak spot in the Yankees' lineup, and how the Yankees continue to go without a RP level hitting first baseman while the Red Sox have like 10 is rather astounding.

Either that, or he should be moved now. His value isn't going to go up if the Yankees don't use him next year. If he's not in their long-term plans he should be shipped out ASAP - 21 year old outfielders with good plate discipline and a high batting average are worth a decent amount.

IMO this is about as good a deal the Yankees could realistically pull off at the deadline. Abreu may be overpaid, past his prime, and poor in the field, but he is waaay better than putting out Bubba Crosby or Aaron Guiel. Lidle is nothing special in the grand scheme of things but he is a marked improvement over chacon/ponson/wright. He will be able to pitch a good number of innings, he'll definitely go deeper than any of those 3, and K/BB numbers aren't even that bad. Nice improvement there.

We gave up CJ Henry, some very raw SS prospect who is years and years away from his not large chance of making it in the majors. Matt Smith is very very meh... for all the improvement the Yankees are getting I am going to go ahead and say... great!

Unfortunately, this looks like a steal for the Yankees.

Hard to believe the Phillies could not do better.
