hoh2
Never fold trips if you think the villian has higher trips. If you fold because you think he has higher trips you shouldnt be playing.

PokerStove

Math is Math. Putting all of your chips in with such an overwhelming Expected Value (EV) vastly outweighs any "touchy/feely". Do Not Fold A Set on This Board Ever.

Here endeth the lesson . . .

(a tad drunk now, so please dont rip on spelling mistakes etc)

Okey, maybe this post was result oriented. The thing is I thought about it for a minute or so. My gut telling me "fold, you are way behind." The devil on my shoulder told me "instacall. Harrington and fellow poker players laugh at people that fold a set in this situation."

Well, I listened to the devil, called, and was not suprised to se JJ on the board.

The thing is, almost every time my gut tries to tell me something (playing poker), my gut is right. So I tried to post the hand here to see if anyone could get why my gut knew i was behind. For the most part I got ridiculed by other players. Most people said instacall (which I do almost every time as allready stated). Thank you for the more helpsome posts regarding range of hands and equity.
I know I've got a lot to learn from most of you guys so I appreciate the feedback.

I think the thing is, playing poker alot, your brain pics up alot of information that you are not aware of. All this information gives you a gut-feeling of what is the correct play or not. Most times this gut-feeling is the same as the "correct" way to play poker. Other times, in difficult pots, the gut and the brain do not agree. So, who should you listen to?

An other example:

$25 STT 6-handed, 1st hand

Hero is at CO with 77 and open-raises to 3bb. Button, SB and BB calls

Flop 732

Check to hero who bets 1/2 pot, SB calls

turn: 3

Check to hero who bets 1/2 pot, SB calls

river: 3

Check to hero who bets 1/2 pot, SB minraises

What does math tell me?: Chance that SB had a 3 and got runner runner quads ~ 0.1% ---> instapush

What does my gut tell me?: Chance that SB has quads ~ 100%

gut: fold
median: call to see his quads
math: push

here's the thing - you will never ever remember the times your "gut" told you something and you were wrong, but you will 100% always remember when your "gut" told you something and you were right.

Fold sets on a board of 5678A 4-flush, not on a rainbow, discontinuous flop.

Trust the math, not your gut.

why is that?

Personally, every time I'm in an important hand I think about what I did, why I did it, and why it turned out the way it did.

Maybe i've got a selective memory, but I cant remember one time my gut was wrong. I remember times when i didnt do what my gut told me because it was ridiculous, so I dont know the end results.

Im about to read a book Eugen Herringot - Zen and the art of archery. I think its got a lot to do about trusting your instincts. If people want to I can make a post about it when im done, if people think im full of bs ill stfu.
