Re: Underrated bands from the late 80\'s/early 90\'s
Yes, the smashing pumpkins in hind sight were a poor choice for for a "most underrated" band, however the pumpkins get no respect from anybody I know or the general media today. If you watch any rock show or countdown list they are never mentioned in the top bands of the time or mentioned as any form of rock gods throughout the recent history of music.
I'm drunk while typiing htis so please forgive any weird wordings/spelling errors. |

I think the Pumpkins are one of those acts, where nobody likes them except for their fans.
That sounds stupid, but they arn't a bad that you can have a casual interest in. Probably only Disarm, and 1979 are songs that the average punter would have heard. |

[ QUOTE ] Soundgarden, go download Fell on Black Days and Rusty Cage [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious? You're saying this as if nobody has heard these songs before? [/ QUOTE ] I'd say a lot of people havent heard Rusty Cage. Badmotorfinger is a tad before the time of a lot of our posters, and it was lost in the success of nevermind and ten. The album doenst really get talked about like Superunknown, which a lot more have heard. |

CMI,
While I'm sure MBV is underrated in the "popular" sense, I'm not sure you can say they are in the "critical" sense. Didn't Pitchfork name Loveless the second best album of the '90s? |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes. In fact loveless was #1 when they did that list at the end of the 90s (they redid it later on, and that is what is known as the "Redux" edition). However, given the op listed the pumpkins and tool as underrated bands, I really have no idea what underrated means in this context. I chose "not well known despite talent," and therefore went with MBV (similar situation to the respect thread... you need to define these words) |

Re: Underrated bands from the late 80\'s/early 90\'s
Agreed.
Going strictly by how many people know of them, I'd say they're a great pick. I doubt they're that underrated by the people who have heard them though. And yes, Smashing Pumpkins and Tool aren't underrated by any definition of the word. I'd offer some picks but none are really coming to mind. |
