VILLA! isn't barthez like 39 now? france can't find anyone a little more mobile?

[/ QUOTE ]

There wasn't a keeper in the world getting to that ball.

[/ QUOTE ]

and Barthez got as close as anyone physically could.

that said, i never feel comfortable with him in goal.

Why don't they give them the penalty kick at the spot of the foul in the box? That seems a little more fair than giving a PK for a foul near the edge of the box then moving the ball to point blank range...

I see Harkes got in his once-a-game anti-England dig a few minutes back. You don't think the guy's still a little upset about not being able to hack it in the Premier League, do you? The guy's entire English career was one goal in a losing effort in a League Cup final. Slight sour grapes there.

[/ QUOTE ]

to be fair, I'd be pretty pissed too that I spent a lot of time at Wednesday. Having to ply my trade in Sheffield wouldn't exactly motivate me

I know I sound like a broken record here but Raul playing over Reyes, Joaquin, and Luis Garcia is an amazingly poor managing decision.

I really don't get the spanish obsession with Raul. He has never fully impressed me and for someone who has been supposed to be as good as him, he never really comes through when he's needed and I don't think that he is anyhwere near as dangerous as is advertised. And now at the age of 29 his career is in the decline(and has been for a year or two) when he should be starting to hit his peak. Maybe it has a bit to do with him playing in the 1st team at such a young age, but this should be his time in the sun and its quite the opposite

i don't think barthez played that pk badly or anyone else could have stopped it, i just didn't realize barthez was still starting for france until just now.

Cos thats the rule and the defenders know that, its not like its some shock to them, the french guy was an idiot the guy wasnt facing the goal, he should have stayed on his feet and not stood on the his leg right in fornt of the ref.
