If you drive to strip hotels, many of them won't valet non-hotel guests.

[/ QUOTE ]

But most will.

Maybe mid-week. Before 7 pm.

Otherwise, fuhgeddaboudit.

1. Stay on the strip, average age downtown 65.
2. I love Casino Royale and I did not even know they had rooms. Cheap casino. Great Location. Also the Outback Steakhouse on the seconf floor right above where htey sell the T-shirts is a good deal at Lunch.
3. Do not rent a car. Horrible traffic, crazy cabdrivers. You will walk everywhere except Strip clubs.
4. At the airport get a Sky Cap, he will skip the taxi line saving you 30-45 minutes and tip him $5-10. Taxi to strip less than $20. Tell the cabbie Do not take the tunnel.

This is almost certainly locked in now, and certainly outback seals it . Thanks for the advice guys.

This is also likely, again, as per recommendations in this thread it seems like we'll be withen walking distance of the strip (LDO) and will be able to taxi to Freemont (the only place downtown we're concerned with).

As for the trip report, that goes without saying.

Haha as a little aside, we aren't going to stay at El Cortez, but what's the reason beind the almost unanimous hatred. Most reviews I read were passible.

Actually, the El Cortez is the cheapest show in town assuming you don't get mugged. For the 10 minutes I was there I saw 2 (alleged) crack whores, 1 (alleged) pimp, and the smoke in the room nearly choked me. If you think the reviews are favorable, check out some the ones at all vegas poker from there:

The El Cortez hotel, and the poker room inside, should have been blown up 10 years ago. But the place has character.

If you're under 40, you will probably be the youngest person seated at the table. Of course, the El Cortez also gets a lot of visitors from downtown. These are your standard bums, crack dealers, and street hookers.
The poker tables may be the oldest poker tables still in service in Las Vegas. They have terrible felt and cigarette burns everywhere. Even the card decks seem old school.

With only two Texas Holdem tables, the El Cortez is also the smallest poker room listed at allvegaspoker.com -- In fact, the El Cortez doesn't even really have a poker "room" -- It just has two poker tables and a manager's desk next to the craps tables in the middle of the casino.

If you're looking for an up-town poker experience, then go elsewhere. The El Cortez poker room is the biggest poker hole in the wall in Vegas. But, if you're the type of person that likes a place like this, then God bless and good luck.

Unless you somehow get very, very bored, I wouldn't bother with downtown. Since you're getting the cheap dump experience where you're staying (and next door at the IP), the only thing to see downtown is the light show. If I remember my college days correctly, a light show has as much appeal as a cold sore. If you hunger for more cheap dump experience, go to Slots-a-Fun next to Circus Circus, home of the 2 pound hot dog and beer for a dollar.

Best price you are going to get on a flight is if your staying over on a saturday ... many travel sites are significantly lower over the sat-sun weekend... use hotels.com they are cheaper than priceline.
