Not the most dominating ever, but one of the most surprising dominating performances ever, was Bobby Jones 1 hitter in Game 4 of the division series in 2000 that gave the Mets the series over the Giants. Eight 1-2-3 innings. A double by Kent in the 5th was it

I had front row seats for the Pedro - Drays game in 2000.
Pedro pegged Gerald Williams with his first pitch of the game and a brawl ensued. After that at bat Pedro was absolutely sick. He was perfect after that until the 9th when he let up a bloop single and ended up with just the 1 hitter.

I <3 Pedro.

20 strikeout games are impressive, but I think a perfect game is much more dominant.
That to me is more impressive than striking out 20. Allowing no one to reach base is a sign of utter dominance.

20 strikeout games are far less common than perfect games.

Also, perfect games have a lot more to do with variance than 20K games do...guys lining out right to a fielder, etc. 20 strikeout games usually have to do with 7 lucky guys weakly grounding out and popping out and stuff.

I remember Woods game, I think I saw the last half of it. The Astros did have a great offense that year, but mostly righties. No match against the 80+mph curve that sweeps 2' and drops 2'. lol.

First of all, it's dominant, not "dominate." Dominate is a verb.

Always good times when lefties would swing at Wood's curve that would hit them in the foot.

the best performance I ever watched start to finish was when Mark Mulder beat Randy Johnson in arizona in July 2001, the year ARZ would go on to win the WS. He allowed an end of bat texas leaguer to Denny Bautista leading off the 8th, but was otherwise perfect. 9 k's, zero 3 ball counts, 2:08 game time. Most dominant I've seen.

best one i've been to was Twins-Braves 1991 game 7 Jack Morris 10 innings to win the WS...wow. Considering the stakes it was remarkable, and the fact that he refused to come out gets him major points.

Funny you linked the boxscore but didn't notice Brian Anderson was the D'Backs pitcher, not Randy Johnson. Not that it matters who was pitching for the D'Backs.

I did find it interesting that only 2 of the 18 non-K outs left the infield. So, three balls left the infield all game. That's pretty good control, I'd say. Anyway, had to give it a look because I have fond memories of the days when the D'Backs briefly didn't suck.

as a cardinal fan it's painful to hear stories about a healthy, effective mark mulder
