Re: Make me or MT2R or anyone a mod for sporting events
I'll volunteer. I won't do a lot, though. I'll ban spammers and obvious trolls but if people don't want to read someone's posts they can ignore them.

I would also create a dedicated thread and/or ban everyone talking about the ethics of the Patriots running up the score. God damn shut the hell up.

Re: Make me or MT2R or anyone a mod for sporting events
Sports is one of the most self-policing forums I've ever come across anywhere. It takes care of itself. I'm not even sure how often MEbenhoe is online to be honest, and there was even a stretch there last year where The Sandwich Artist Formerly Known As AngryCola was the only mod despite all the traffic, and even then we had no problems.
Thus the only reason I could see to add a mod is to deal with spam when MEbenhoe or TSAFKAAC are away. Reasonable I guess, but the lighter hand the better - things like managing the link in the OP are pretty silly IMO. And yeah, way back then both Clarkmeister and I opposed JoA as a mod because we considered him a troll. I don't know if I've changed or if he has, but he is one of the leveler heads in that forum and a really sharp cat to boot. Would definitely endorse making him a mod if TPTB thought it was necessary. |

Re: Make me or MT2R or anyone a mod for sporting events
I just realized there is a thread for the pats running up the score discussion. There's just a bunch of annoying [censored] with threads getting derailed with the same tired discussions (Nash, Brady/Manning, etc.) and people quoting posts that have like 8 posts in them, making them huge. It's not a huge deal, but occasional modding might help.

Re: Make me or MT2R or anyone a mod for sporting events
how the hell did I get in the subject line?
I'd ban like half that forum in a day ********** after reading above replies, ok--I spend too much time in the forum and it is a personal failing of mine that I'm working on---I am around enough to catch lots of spammers I am a bit emotional about the subject of sports never subjective though my platform for that forum is an instant ipban on redbean |

[ QUOTE ]
my platform for that forum is an instant ipban on redbean [/ QUOTE ] This is actually worse than Noah's "mandatory *** in subject line" platform, something which I thought not possible. RedBean rules and you are cool too. Funny though that all the Nash/Manning/Brady complaints didn't also include Bonds, whose name is at least as incendiary as any of those. I don't care if they add eleventy million mods to Sports, I still believe that the "less is more" approach that MEbenhoe seems to follow is clearly the best way to go about things. While recreational in nature, sports can bring out the worst in people and posters. Put a biased mod or two in there and the forum will go to hell quickly. |
