Re: Hostel 2 and the state of Horror Films in General
I thought Hostel was going to totally suck, like on the level of Saw-suckiness, but I wound up kind of liking it. I like how drawn out the beginning is, before any blood is spilled. Kind of unexpected for a movie that you figure is gonna be a wall to wall gorefest. And on that point, it isn't really that gory. The achilles heel thing is the worst part of the movie, IMO.
I really liked the eastern european women and their role in the movie, and thought the scene where they go from beautiful to pock-marked and sallow was pretty brilliant.
Anyway, I'm with Kimball here--not my favorite movie ever, but better than a lot of people give it credit for.
