when someone raises preflop, their range is more likely to be weighted towards the stronger hand spectrum. that coupled with the fact that 2/3 of the time the other caller misses teh flop causes the check to the raiser situation. The preflop raiser can then rely on his preflop strength to continue pretending that he's strong postflop (because his preflop raise narrows his hand range to stronger hands).
this is probably what initiative is all about: the raiser's preflop hand range is suggested to be stronger than the callers due to the action. |
