[ QUOTE ] thanks for all the advice. I did call him down and he had Q8o. I think since this hand became heads up. A better play would be to usually wait to raise the turn, as I will be ahead most of the time. [/ QUOTE ] I was responding to this. |

I'd be curious about any other comments about raising flop vs turn under these conditions. If it was multiway I would always jam the flop.In this case the LAG was playing about 65% of starting hands and raising most of them. He was however paying attention to the fact I was tight and my 3 bet on the flop , followed by his call tells me he knows I have a big PP.In this case , maybe the turn raise has more value?

[/ QUOTE ] That is heavily read dependent. In this hand I don't think that line makes much sense. Delaying the raise to the turn relies entirely on opponent betting the turn. In this hand any broadway card might freeze your action. The vast majority of the time I take the value when I have it (when I have the chance to bet or raise). In order to delay the raise and get more value from it than a flop three bet you need to be absolutely sure that your opponent will bet the turn and call you down after you raise him. For instance, if you had AA and the flop was K high uncoordinated rainbow and this opponent c/r you. Almost nothing can come on the turn to stop him from betting and almost nothing can come that will stop him from paying you off. Then delaying the raise makes sense. In your hand tons of combinations can come on the turn and river that make an 8 not pay you off. Even then, though, I feel much better about putting money in the pot against most opponents whenever I can in these situations. |
