you guys are all pretty [censored] stupid if you think survivor man knows 1/2 of what bear does.
bear= british special forces, all that other crap survivor man= trial musician with good personality turned into tv host get a clue. as for practical, maybe survivor man is better. boy scouts is probably best. let's face it, who watches these for information about what they should actually do, and who watches them just to see what the [censored] bear will do next?? |

Great show even though some parts are definitely at least planned out if not entirely scripted. As for the OP, Bear is rediculously proficient with that flint so for him it may actually be a better tool than a lighter or matches because it doesn't depend on being dry and isn't prone to breaking.
As for "fire proof" matches, I don't know what the point of these would be... |

Wow...I always had a weird feeling the show was super fake but figured it was just slightly set-up etc.
Well it is now official..when it comes to survivor shows..LES>>>>>>BEAR but when it comes to being a general badass/adventure freak Bear still >>> Les ...an adviser to the show has disclosed that at one location where the adventurer claimed to be a “real life Robin-son Crusoe” trapped on “a desert island”, he was actually on an outlying part of the Hawaiian archipelago and spent nights at a motel. On another occasion in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains where he was filmed biting off the head of a snake for breakfast and struggling for survival “with just a water bottle, a cup and a flint for making fire”, he actually slept some nights with the crew in a lodge fitted with television and internet access. The Pines Resort at Bass Lake is advertised as “a cosy getaway for families” with blueberry pancakes for breakfast. In one episode Grylls was shown apparently building a Polynesian-style raft using only materials around him, including bamboo, hibiscus twine and palm leaves for a sail. But according to Mark Weinert, an Oregon-based survival consultant brought in for the job, it was he who led the team that built the raft. It was then dismantled so that Grylls could be shown building it on camera. |

I'm not sure why he doesn't just ask the camera man for a light...?
