everybody knows this city sucks, and is dirty, and has ugly hookers but...they also have casinos, and in those casinos you can gamble

[/ QUOTE ]

No, unfortunately this is 100% correct

From the pinnacle website, the casino company that bought the sands:
On November 17th, 2006, we completed the purchase of the Sands Hotel & Casino and Traymore Hotel sites in the famed Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Together, the land being acquired comprises approximately 18 contiguous acres at the heart of Atlantic City, with extensive frontage along the Boardwalk. We plan to design and build an entirely new casino hotel on the site, which would be among the largest and most spectacular resorts in the region.

"Atlantic City is one of the top U.S. gaming destinations, and we're looking forward to being a part of the world-famous Boardwalk," said Daniel R. Lee, Pinnacle's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "This major new resort will be a key component in our plan to build a national network of gaming properties. It will also help extend our development pipeline and our Company's growth through 2010 and beyond. In connection with our longstanding interest in Atlantic City, we submitted our initial license application in New Jersey several months ago.”

From what i last heard this is supposed to be done in the next 3-4 years

I think the idea in designing the hotel was that "if we build it in AC but away from the boardwalk, we'll get a classier clientele with more money" (notice that none of the charter buses or greyhound stop there) which may be how it's worked out for them

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I've talked to a couple of people at the Borgata and they made a deliberate decision to not have Greyhound or other cheap buslines stop at the casino. They didn't want those customers.

Pinnacle even has billboard advertisements on the highways coming into the city trying to build a buzz already. Morgan Stanley & Revel Entertainment is already breaking ground on a $1B+ mega casino on the 20+ acre lot next to the Showboat on the north end. On the south end, a group is planning to build a large casino next to the Hilton. And supposedly a new large casino from MGM/Boyd is going up in the Marina district near the Borgata. This is addition to the new towers already being build at the Taj, Harrah's, and Borgata and the announced expansion of the Hilton to try to keep up with the big boys.

Haven't heard much lately about Wynn and Trump knocking down the Trump Plaza and building a new mega casino there. Probably got stalled by Trump's failed plans to sell his casinos. Maybe those plans will be revived now that Trump's probably going to personally take over the lead of the casino operations part of his business.

Within three years, there will be four Borgata-quality casinos built, three of which will be on the boardwalk. And the others are upgrading to keep up. Casears is already really nice. Too bad their poker room is pretty dead. Overall, AC will be changing a lot in the next few years. The money is starting to pour in.

Is this really true? As of when I was there last week, the Sands building was still standing there taking up space. Completely replacing a boardwalk casino seems like a massive undertaking that AFAIK was still in the planning stages. I have a hard time believing they will have three new Borgatas built and opened within three years.

Slots are up in Philly. I can't believe Philly will be letting AC keep an edge by not offering table games.

[/ QUOTE ]

i don't think under law they can have table games in philly. they have some blackjack to try to get some blackjack players there

here's an article about revenue decline in AC

You missed the thrill of the road which goes to Absecon, with the concrete barrier, which prevents all left turns and U turns....for miles!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually there are 3 or 4 turnarounds from the right lane within that stretch. You must be very liberal to not look to your right.

Yeah the Pinnacle will be built by the end of 2010 where the Sands property is now. Another MGM Grande is going in the big property in between the Borgata and Harrah's. Finally, Steve Wynn is building a new property along the boardwalk as well that is supposed to be larger than any other building in AC. Things are definitely looking up for AC, its just ashame that the ppl don't change regardless of what remarkable upgrades to the landscape they make.
