Variance: the rifle with subsonic .22 was going at arond 1200 and didnt have enough pressure to force the empty out...turned the semi-auto into a "bolt action"

Few questions ?
Can I just go to the range to shoot with no permit or anything?
Do I bring my own ammo?
Do I bring my own gun?
if not can I choose my gun?

Just kind of curious and want the experience but I have zero knowledge besides shooting a bb gun.

Not sure how much it varies state to state but in Va you could walk right in rent a gun and start firing. I would recommend you go with a friend who is knowledgeable or take a class 1st though. Bringing your own ammo varies from range to range some make you buy theirs but if they don't I would def bring your own to save some money.
