Re: Sopranos Finale - Last Scene Poll ***SPOILER***
[ QUOTE ]
The Big Suprise Ending is that there is no ending! [/ QUOTE ] FYP. It is not there is no suprise ending, it is that there is no ending at all! There is a build up and then a cut to black (not a fade to black, as many others have called it). Viewer are left to imagine their own ending or interpret what they see as an ending -- but there is no conclusion to the story or closure to our Sopranos experience. |

Re: Sopranos Finale - Last Scene Poll ***SPOILER***
I am liking the ending more now - but I agree with someone who said that the blackout technique lost its effect because you were thrown out of the moment of the show as you tried to find remote/check cable box/check TV etc instead of staying "in" the show. If they had designed something a little better there, it would have been perfect.

Re: Sopranos Finale - Last Scene Poll ***SPOILER***
Tony doesn't die. He made peace with NYC...unless some random dude from like 4 seasons ago chose this day the wack him in a crowded restraunt then he live "happily" ever after.
The end sequence was pretty stupid though given its basically a prick tease for all the people who have put up with David Chases prima donna act for the past 3 or 4 years. But overall, despite the retarded tricks and red herrings, it is a fine ending..life goes on for Tony and co. |

Re: Sopranos Finale - Last Scene Poll ***SPOILER***
I think its quite funny all you people trying to emphatically PROVE that Tony does or does not die. The whole point of Chase cutting it where he did is so you can imagine what happens to Tony, if it really matters etc etc. Chase does not know whether Tony is dead, neither do you, because this is ficiton, and that part of the ficiton was not written.
Your basically asking 'Do Micheal Caine and Co of The Italian Job get off the mountain edge and save the gold?' You don't know, and it doesn't matter because its a ficiton and thats where the writer/director chose to end it. |

[/ QUOTE ] You're still not quite there. Yes, we can engage in first level thinking "What happenes next". But the point is, it doesn't matter. If Tony gets indicted. If Tony gets shot. Doesn't matter. We've already seen Tony beat all these things! There is only one thing Tony can't beat and that is himself. There are four fundamental conflicts in fiction: Man vs man Man vs animal or nature Man vs society Man vs himself Obviously The Sopranos as whole touches on all of these. However Tony Soprano's primary conflict is with himself. It always has been and always will be. His battles with other mob bosses, his battles with law enforcement, his battles within his own crew. These are just side issues to the main event. Tony's inner conflict has been resolved as far as it ever will. He found enlightenment in the desert and rejected it. He found enlightenment in therapy it rejected him. He is no longer seeking enlightenment and is attempting to find solace in the everyday. But we know this won't last, it never does. Soon enough Tony will be back on that merry-go-round. But a circle has no begining and no end. It simply continues. It "Goes on and on and on and on". Until we jump off. |

Re: Sopranos Finale - Last Scene Poll ***SPOILER***
Here's what it's like to be Tony Soprano. He's eating with his family, and when the door opens with the "ding" he has to look up and be aware that this could be the moment. It's that constant looking over the shoulder that is the cross he has to bear. And when the camera cuts to black, we get a feeling for what it will be like for him when that moment comes. It will be immediate.
Even though this time, we know it's just Meadow. |

[ QUOTE ] can there be an option for 'it doesn't matter'? [/ QUOTE ] QFT. If your making this poll you just don't understand the Sopranos. [/ QUOTE ] There's a reason Chase had the camera linger on 'Any Way You Want It,' and the final song title shown was "I Gotta Be Me." |
