Just bumping this thread to see if anyone can think of any movies or concert DVDs that have a great, high energy, rock-n-roll type duel between electric guitarists or something like that. Like where there's a regular verse/chorus thing, and then when they break it down two guitarists go at it, one taking a solo for a minute or so, then the other guy stepping up and trying to top that solo. Anything? [/ QUOTE ] Probably not what your looking for exactly, but in Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won, during "Bring It On Home", Jimmy Page and John Bonham go at it pretty good. Jimmy will do a little bluesy lick, then Bonham will do his best to imitate it on DRUMS, and they repeat this for a bit. It's pretty cool. |

I haven't looked, but I'm sure if you do a search for Allan Holdsworth on Youtube you'll find some insane guitar noodling.

This isn't a duel, but here is some Shawn Lane, probably the best electric guitarist I've ever heard.

Anything? [/ QUOTE ] The G3 DVDs. They've released three of them. G3 is Joe Satriani and Steve Vai along with a third guitarist (Eric Johnson in the first DVD, Yngwie in the second one, and John Petrucci (of Dream Theater) in the third). The structure of each DVD is the same: a set by the guest guitarist, a set by Vai, and a set by Satriani, followed by 3 songs done by all three guitarists. That last part is what you're looking for. They'll play a rock standard, then do an extended solo where all three guitarists trade licks. Here's a sample (only the joint works in each DVD have vocals. All other songs are instrumental only): http://youtube.com/watch?v=jWffQv9zyks First DVD Second DVD Third DVD Also check out Dream Theater's Live at Budokan DVD. In addition to the multiple extended guitar solos (expected at any Dream Theater concert), there's a section of Beyond This Life where the keyboardist and the drummer start some dueling patterns. The guitarist joins in as well. Live at Budokan |
