Re: icm question: set mining early
I think you are right about 99 being unexploitable, I couldn't find any ranges that makes 99 a fold. I'm interested in finding out how you would test that in sngwiz though, just trial and error with ranges or using the graphs?
Edit: Nevermind, I think I found out how by using the graph with 77 and 99 and seeing that the diff goes into the negative at some points with 77, is close with 88 but always is positive with 99. Good call. It actually seems to be unexploitable with 88 as well, though it goes under the "edge" there are no points where its worse than folding. |

No, the 77 hand is even money most of the time at a 6.50. Folding isn't horrible. [/ QUOTE ] What do you think the typical calling ranges are here? This not being a +EV push is surprising to me? |

Re: icm question: set mining early
Set mining is a key facet to Hold em, I love calling with any pair 8 and lower looking to set, they are easy to fold as well.
I sometimes even call a turn looking to spike since they make huge pots. |

Re: icm question: set mining early
It is key in a cash game, not in a turbo SNG where chips not lost are worth more than chips won early on.

Re: icm question: set mining early
Pretty bad call IMO. A lot of things have to go right for you to get a stack; some points to remember:
1) They usually have to have an overpair first of all. If they have AK/AQ/whatever, they're not stacking off unless they hit TPTK and will still get away a tiny % of the time, as they will with an overpair. 2) It could get raised behind and then you have to fold. 3) Chips lost are more valuable than chips gained. 4) A rare set over set on the flop, turn or river and you're stacked. 5) You basically can't call a flop bet and most people continuation bet. So fold. Ryan |

Re: icm question: set mining early
It matters if the pot is multi way or not. Calling of 1/12 of your stack when directly to the left of the raiser is retarded. Calling after 2 others have called and u close the action getting like 4.3:1 immediate odds plus implied odds with good relative position is a great play.
Like u limp, UTG+1 makes it 120, two call, it's 90 more back to you. U call. HU, in the same spot, obv fold. Since you will just fold if you miss and u aren't guarenteed to stack if you hit. |

Re: icm question: set mining early
Another determining factor should be buy in. You should probably be more apt to call raises/limp with pps as you move down in stake.
