This is a hilarious illustration of why sarcasm is so over-rated.

$300 = approx £170...

£170 a month won't get you LIVING in london....u may be able to stay in hostels....but thats not living in London..

Look.

Maybe he wont be able to afford your Champagne and caviar lifestyle, he may not (I say it is debatable) be able to live like a King but should be able to easily manage the lifestyle of an Earl or even a Viscount.

However a good internet connection will be his biggest problem (come on you cant argue about that!) as I am not even sure they have the interweb in London yet.

Also when in London make sure not to be overly sarcastic as there residents especialy those living in the suburbs often dont pick up on it unless you laddle it on realy thick.

Sir,

I believe you are underestimating the costs of the modern aristocracy. After all, the tazes on the Country House, the minimum wage for the scullery and gardening staff and the fact you no longer get cheap meals at the House of Lords all add up.

I think my advice would be for the fellow to aim a little more modestly. and aim for the lifestyle of a heriditary baronetcy.

Of course, a baronetcy is a secondary honour, a mere bauble, but it is still a title.

He could then skimp on the townhouse and simply stay in his club. Also he'd probably be able to get his suits from one of those indian fellows who do made to measure cheaply rather than from Gieves and Hawkes.

I believe some of the less exclusive clubs allow telefunicular devices now, so presumably his manservant would be able to connect his adding machine to that.

How So? 9O% of the most humerous threads on this forum involve sarcasm.

Its not my fault that the fonz lost his cool and went all Oxford Dictionary over my post after a percieved but unintended slieght. I have no wish to slieght anyone.

Uptill then the thread was amusing me greatly.

Idaho is nice if your thing is turning into a recluse. It seems like this guy just wants to hole-up and play online poker all day.

Have you considered Lagos, Nigeria? It is a beautiful city, filled with vibrant, trustworthy people.

I will happily rent you a room in my estate for $300/month, my friend. If you are interested, please forward me your banking information so that I can begin processing your rental application.

Your friend,

Idi

This is very generous of you.

I am a little bit concerned that you haven't been keeping up your correspondence with me, however. I trust that the check that I sent you arrived safely? I hope that you will be restored to your proper position soon. I despair of not hearing from you.

You must learn to be an optimist regarding these things, Skipbidder. Such a friend as this is unlikely to desert you.
