I also don't agree that 2 being the worst is a "universally accepted" opinion. My preference from best to worst is 1,2,3. I enjoyed 1 and 2 a lot, also liked 3 but didn't feel it was in the same category as the first two.
The whole thing with the puzzles was silly, I thought. The bottles/scale one I think most of the theatre had heard of before. If you're going to be silly, at least try to be original. Also, seems like the made some tweaks to Bruce Wills's character. In the first two he was more of an everyman in a wrong time, wrong place situation. In the third, I think they took the down on his luck, estranged from his wife just a little too far. Just too much of a stretch to believe the character would change that much. And in this case "Simon" specifically singled him out to play his game. I think those of us who didn't like this movie as much as the first two (and I guess we are in the minority) might have enjoyed this movie more if it wasn't called "Die Hard", so we wouldn't have the familiarty of the Die Hard universe. I felt like this (only much more so) when seeing Mission Impossible as well. Sorry if I rambled here.

That 2 being the worst of the three is "universally accepted"? Technically, 100%. But the point is that there are dozens of voters who agree with me, even if we are in a significant minority. That is all. No big deal, and I can assure you that the OP understands what I was getting at (just like he knows more people agree with him than myself about the ranking of 2 vs. 3). I'm not sure why you're making such a big deal out of this.

1 is better than three by a fair amount, although 3 is quite enjoyable and I don't know wtf someone else was talking about when they bagged on Jeremy Irons as a villain. 2 is so terrible that it's humorous, so I'll still watch it from time to time. But it's really, really bad.
