For those who don't know, CAFE standards are a requirement Congress imposes on foreign and domestic auto manufacturers that the average fuel economy of the vehicles they sell must be a certain number (I forget what it is). You can produce vehicles that don't meet the standard as long as you produce more fuel efficient vehicles to make up for it.

They'd talk endlessly about doing something useless and then do something less effective.

I'm confused as to why everyone thinks a slight tax increase or a CAFE standards increase would be a terrible thing in comparison to the problems they are attempting to solve.

I'm confused as to why everyone thinks a slight tax increase or a CAFE standards increase would be a terrible thing in comparison to the problems they are attempting to solve. [/ QUOTE ] CAFE is a dumb way to deal with global warming because it isn't flexible enough. Automobiles are far from the only source of CO2. A much better plan is to have a broad-based carbon tax. That way, the least-valued uses of CO2 will be eliminated, whatever industry they're in, and the higher-valued ones can remain. |

Because it opens the flood gates. [/ QUOTE ] Say what? [ QUOTE ] I'm confused as to why anyone thinks a slight theft increase is acceptable for any reason. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, yes, you think taxes are evil, I get it. That's the way the system works and I'm not interested in a debate over whether we should change the system right now. It's a different issue. [ QUOTE ] CAFE is a dumb way to deal with global warming because it isn't flexible enough. Automobiles are far from the only source of CO2. A much better plan is to have a broad-based carbon tax. But we might as well up CAFE standards and have a carbon tax. |

anyone out there who wants to take more of my hard earned money better show me PROOF that the US is causing global warming and then show me PROOF that my hard earned money will actually contribute to solving the problem

If yes then I like your style. |
