Default Re: No Online Satellites to WSOP?

A google search brings up 50% qualified online. 20% from PokerStars (1600 players). Is that accurate?

Close to it:

"With hundreds of online sites sending people to the WSOP main event this year, it’s impossible to know exactly how many people qualified online. Not even Nolan Dalla, the media director and all around information man for the WSOP, knows the exact number of players who got in by playing online poker.

It’s safe to say that more than 4,400 players who played in this year’s main event got in it by playing online poker. To put it into perspective, that number is only 1,219 less than the total number of players in last year’s main event, and dominates the 2004 figure of 2,576 players.
PokerStars, where the last three WSOP main event champions happened to qualify, has the most qualifiers in this year’s event, with a little more than 1,650. PartyPoker is next with 1,023 qualifiers. Full Tilt qualified 423 players, Bodog qualified 396, Paradise Poker qualified 298, Ultimate Bet qualified 230, Ladbrokes qualified 95, and Pacific qualified about 150."

Harrah's clarified their position on 3rd party registrations for the 2007 WSOP on CardPlayer, found here.

What's to stop the sites from running the same satellites and GIVING YOU CASH once you win the "seat"?...

Lol cashoutallites....

[/ QUOTE ]

That would be just the same as saying that You want to win 10k in ring games to pay for your main event buyin... Problem is, once you actually have the money you don't really wanna shell out 10k for such a huge variance event... Also, Guys with families and stuff, the wife would be ok w/ you winning your seat and playing in the ME, b/c once u have a seat there's no choice, but she is not gonna be too happy about you throwing a year or two worth of mortgage payments on a donkament.

[/ QUOTE ]

lol... not even close...

i was gonna do a FYP and change it to a years worth of property tax payments. sad, but true. sad....but FKING TRUE.

Doesn't sound like much has changed from the aspect of online sats, that and they estimate that 1/2 of the '06 ME entries came from online sats....

One has to look at context.

1) Harrah's operates with fear of IRS audit as it relates to the W2G situation. This motivates them to give the winners of over $600 a W2G.

2) HET is among the worst companies for customer service in poker.

3) HET loves the juice from online players because they are not very demanding in terms of comps, room rates, etc.

If there was a way to accept 3rd party registration, HET would do it. My guess is that the inherent fear they have, and their penchant to error on the side of extreme caution (IRS example) leads me to believe that unless HET knows you did not win a seat online (i.e. WSOP licenced satellite, as Gary Thompson eludes to), you better register in person.

I think next year's main event dips to 2,500.

Maybe it won't be such a marathon this time, the average player won't have to win so many races and suckouts, and pure skill will be more of a factor.

Harrahs has live satellites at their other casinos. I am sure there will be an increase live satellite entries. However, less online fish may reduce entries by decent players who are not top pros. Still, I think it will be more than 2500.

I know you didn't write the above quote, but there is an inaccuracy in it, I believe.

Hachem played on Stars, but did not sattelite in through them. He did it B&M from what I've read. He signed on with Pokerstars after the ME 2005 FWIR.
