It's a non-event, cuz even when it happens, it hasn't really happened.

Que?

MT2R thinks Bonds is basically cheating, so it shouldn't count. Like if a basketball player actually got those magnets from David Blaine, and scored 150 points in one game - it happened, but he wouldn't count it.

Is this really that big of an event?

[/ QUOTE ]

no way youre asking this seriously. It will CERTAINLY be the biggest sports moment of the decade.

LOL...it's roundly ignored by most people I chat with other than to make fun of ESPN continual coverage.

Not sure if it's sarcasm, but I think this is spot on.

As far as I can tell, this is largely being ignored, and people are irritated that it's being shoved down their throats. (Thank you very much FOX, but I don't need you to completely cut away from my game to show the ENTIRE AB for a Bonds intentional walk).

No way when people look back 20 years from now at the moments they remember most from the decade will they say "Bonds breaking the HR record". If they do, it's because of the circus surrounding it due to steroids, not because of the breaking of the record.

because alex rodriguez will break it 6-8 years later

i recognize that news media coverage tends to ruin things for people on the internet, but this is the biggest record in sports. people aren't rooting for barry to do it (except sf giants fans and statheads who reactionarily like anyone regular sports fans hate but are good/great players)

if the steroids [censored] endures longer than the records, the media will have won.

I think people genuinely think the record is tainted by steroids. I certainly do.

So when A-Rod hits number 800 in 9 years do you guys think that the celebration will be a lot better/more fun/universal?

I think if he does break the record I think it will change how people view his entire career. Right now he is the stuck up douche bag, but if he breaks Bond's record he will be the guy who destroyed the steroid era.

Or at least that's how I think they will spin it.

Newsflash: More pitchers were detected using steroids than hitters.

Who's to say Arod isn't on roids? Or anyone for that matter.

They test, not to mention baseball players have a level of familiarity with steroids akin to the average poster on this board.
