At a Cubs game back in '04 I think. Mark Prior came off the DL in like mid-June and I went with a few friends to the game. He was perfect into the 5th inning, but then gave up a hit. Cubs ended up losing 2-1 to the Pirates when Joe Borowski blew it in the ninth.

I threw a no-hitter my freshman year in high school, but it was one of the 5 inning slaughters (we won 12-0). Then, my sophomore year I only started one game all year, and it was against the same team. I took a no-no into the 5th again when the #8 hitter snuck a single through the hole. They scored 2 unearned runs off of a few walks and some crappy fielding errors, so it was weird to have not given up a hit and still have given up runs.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think I remember that game, was the hit a grounder back up the box that like Prior deflected or something?

It was some stupid hit that wasn't hit that hard that snuck through. I think Prior got taken out after the inning because they didn't want his pitch count to get too high so he wouldn't get injured (that obv. worked in the long run). I remember Borowski giving up an RBI single to Craig Wilson (with the mullet) and booing.

Jose Macias led off the ninth with a double, but of course, was stranded by the next 3 batters.

Was living in Burlington, N.C. about five years ago. I'm from the northeast and a diehard sox fan so carolina was a bit of a culture shock for the year or so I was there. All basketball and nascar talk on radio. It was sooooo aggravating.
Anyway, my girl and I used to make the forty minute trip to durham to see the bulls play as much as we could. Went one night and Jason Tyner (speedy little outfielder once for D rays) broke up the no no with two outs in the ninth. I don't believe the original starting pitcher was even still in there so it wasn't like it was made to even be a big deal (most of the fans had left).

oh ya, it was some kind of solid hit through the right side of the infield. Can't remember if it was a line drive over second baseman's head or sharp two hopper through the hole.

I have never seen anything close to a no-no live, but by far the most dominating performance I ever saw was Maddux against the Blue Jays in 1998. Our seats were right behind home plate and the umpire was well known for having a wide strike zone. Maddux gave up 8 hits but Toronto had 1 runner advance to 3rd with 2 outs in the ninth and only two other players made it to 2nd the whole game. Maddux had 13 k's.

MicroBob,

That sounds like what happened in an episode of Bay City Blues (anybody else old enough to remember that show?). Were you announcing that game?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think I might have heard of Bay City Blues but don't remember what the hell it is.

Yes, I was the announcer. 2002 in Elmira was my last season calling minor-league baseball.

1990, Tiger Stadium, Royals vs. Tigers

Kevin Appier surrendered a leadoff single to Lou Whitaker and then did not allow another hit. At least, that's how I remember it. I was only 8.

August 2003, Shea Stadium, Rockies vs. Mets

Steve Trachsel pitched 5 2/3 perfect innings before giving up a double to Colorado's pitcher. I can't remember his name for sure. I know he was Korean and had a large contingent of fans at the game. It might have been Ja Seo. Anyway, I think that is the only hit Trachsel allowed. No idea if that is correct spelling.

So if my memory serves me, I have seen two 1-hitters.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know of a site where it's easy to find old box scores if you wanted to look up games you had attended?

* On April 15, 1983, Milt Wilcox of the Tigers surrendered a single to White Sox Jerry Hairston.

[/ QUOTE ]

My dad still talks about that game to this day. We used to go to a lot of card shows when I was a kid. One time there was a big show in Adrian over a weekend. Willie Horton was signing on Saturday and Milt Wilcox was there on Sunday. My dad gave Wilcox a Jerry Hairston card to sign.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" he said.

He signed the back of the card and seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor about it.
