if you liked Illmatic, you really need to get It Was Written. Fantastic album.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is the best Wu solo record as someone else said.

Some Outkast is crucial. Another group I'm surprised not to see mentioned at all is the Roots. Their newest, Game Theory, is hot, as were Things Fall Apart, Illadelph Halflife, The Roots Come Alive, etc.

I gave El-P - Fantastic Damage another listen today after ignoring pretty much everything in the Def Jux catalog for a few years and that album is actually pretty damn good. That and Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus are important if you're interested in some of the really alt-rap stuff that has come out. A lot of it is crap in my mind, but I think a few of the early Def Jux albums and some Soundbombing-era Rawkus stuff is worth a listen.

The stuff you're getting now is basically classics which is a great place to start. Just ignore anyone who tells you to check out Dip Set or Cam'Ron or any of those clowns, and make sure you pick up It Was Written at some point.

These guys are right. The first 2 Outkasts are a must. Aquemini is alright too.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know I'm in the minority, but Aquemini is my favorite OutKast album.

OP, this would be in my top 6: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - e.1999 Eternal

Not a huge hip hop head but someone from this forum directed me to Jedi Mind Tricks - Servants in Heaven; Kings in Hell, and i really dug it. I've gotten their whole discography now and it's excellent from start to finish.

I agree 100 percent. Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell really surprised me. I've always been a fan of JMT, but Paz mostly rode off the greatness of Stoupe. I like Vinnie Paz a LOT more than a lot of other people do, but Stoupe made JMT. But this album, it's the opposite; the beats are still doooope, but Paz is a borderline great emcee on this outing. Probably in my top five albums of the year, and maybe top three.

have the eminem, its good. also have the GZA liquid swords which I like a lot. Was thinking about getting some Kool Keith stuff. Have Dr. Octagon, but I always get confused by his alter ego's and what not.

any tips for a good Kool Keith Album?

[/ QUOTE ]

Dr. Dooom easily his best stuff thats not Dr. Octagon.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd say Masters of Illusion. Dr. Dooom is good, though.

OP:

Little Brother - The Minstrel Show

Clipse - We Got It 4 Cheap Vol. 2

Clipse - We Got the Remix

Lil Wayne - Dedication 2

Supastition - Chain Letters

Louis Logic - Sin-A-Matic

Creepin On a Come Up is much better than E1999. 1st of the month is one of the worst songs ever.

Creepin is nasty, but too short. Plus that one instrumental song hurts it. E1999 is ill and very underrated. Although what Creepin has going for it is two of the dopest most gangsterist cuts ever.
