[ QUOTE ] Don't worry, bro. I'm sure you'll have time to celebrate when the Cubbies drop a 4 year/$44M deal on Suppan! [/ QUOTE ] Sadly, I have to project that Suppan is going to get more per season than this. He's had 16 wins twice in the last three years, and was a playoff star last year. He's genuinely better than Meche as well: he has more than triple Meche's VORP over the last three years. I don't think the Cubs are interested, although they might be now that their are so few players to waste money on left. [/ QUOTE ] if Meche is worth this, Suppan should be able to buy a small country with his deal. after all, he won a World Series!!! |

Why do you guys continue to freak out about every single signing? The market simply is much higher than you guys think it is. Seriously before I even open a baseball signing thread I already know that everyone is going to be complaining about the overpaying....I mean, think about it: Do you really think that every single baseball GM is grossly overpaying or that you guys don't understand it like you think you do?
I'll be the first to admit that I know very little about the current baseball economy, but I do know two things: 1. There is no salary cap, so overpaying really doesn't hurt nearly as much as in other sports, especially basketball.2 2. The average baseball GM knows way more than the average poster on this board. |

In this case, though, it's more about meche being >15% of KC's payroll. Just stupid.
But they are used to that with Mike Sweeney. |

[/ QUOTE ] i have gotten past the shock of the money i suppose...in this case though, you have a hapless frachise that needs to rebuild signing somewhat old and rather secondary players. just weird. |
