As much as I have always been opposed to a team calling themselves the AquaSox and featuring a mscot of a lizard with a baseball on the end of it's tongue I think you have a good opportunity there to try to meet people and do a little bit of networking.

Everett is not AA though.

They are short-season A ball in the Northwest League.
Their season hasn't even started yet (probably around June 15 I'm guessing).

They play with teams like Spokane, Yakima, Boise, vancouver, etc.

There are no AA teams/leagues anywhere near you (except for maybe some indy-league teams calling themselves AA)

Whoops, my mistake. I thought Everett was AA.

No indy league teams around here are equivalent to AA. There's the PIL which isn't terribly exciting and probably equivalent to high-A ball or so.

There are 3 AA leagues

Texas League - (San Antonio, Tulsa, Little Rock, etc)
Southern League - (Jacksonville, Birmingham, Knoxville, etc)
Eastern League - (Connecticut, Trenton, New Hampshire, etc)

MicroBob, yeah that guy is still the GM of the B-Mets, maybe I'll tell him I got the recommendation from a guy on an internet gambling message board lol. I am going to go for it though, I've applied to every position I've been emailed (that I'm qualified for, anyway). I mean I'd definitely be willing to sell tickets or something. I just think it would be a total blast to be around the game more. What were you saying about the wooden-bat leagues in Elmira?

Obviously I haven't spread it around among most baseball people that my career is internet-gambling now.

But Scott Brown would definitely know who you were talking about if I told you the name I used on the radio while i was in baseball (used my middle name instead of my last name).

Calling and/or showing up and asking how internships work with a wood-bat summer-league team would be an approach to take too. Just call up Elmira and say you might be interested in getting some experience working in baseball.

Your job would be for little pay though and possibly would only be volunteer stuff for 'experience sake'.

Have fun pulling the tarp. Can't say I miss that duty at all.

Well I am just joking, I'd never actually say that to anyone.

I am going to look them up and do that. I don't mind the pay since living in Binghamton is so cheap... I mean I lived somewhat comfortably off of like $22k/year before and now I'll be sharing rent/bills/food with my girlfriend so it'll be even easier. I just want to get into it somehow. I am probably going to the BMets game tomorrow, maybe I'll bring a resume and try to find someone important looking to give it to. All of the negatives people have cited so far (long hours, low pay) are negligible to me as long as I'm actually interested in some aspect of the company/organization I'm working for. I mean if I got like, discount tickets or a random team jersey my perks list would be completely checked off, lol. I'm easy to please.

Not sure forcing a resume on them in the middle of the season is the best approach.

You're just trying to meet people and find out how to go about doing it.

They have all the interns in place that they need right now I'm sure...and pretty much hired all these people back in January.

Just use your best judgement.

Have just skimmed the thread but I'll add what I can. Have had a few guys come into my Sports Management classes this semester giving their experiences. Basically for nobodies coming out of college they recommend paying your dues in the minors. Hard work is really noticed because some people kinda slack at what they're doing. You can really move up an organization(kind of like a player) just by working hard and being good/making contacts.

Yeah, but this is an aspect that I've considered if I do try to get back into baseball at some point.

Obviously it's not that big a deal to me. I've made no secret about who I am or where I've worked.

If I go back to the baseball winter meetings at some point and people I haven't seen in forever ask what I've been up to or what I've been doing all these years I wouldn't have a problem telling them.
Most would probably think it's kind of cool.

This thread has me really fired up for minor-league baseball btw.
I was way more inspired by my job in baseball and sportscasting than I have ever been about poker.

There are some times when you're tired or had been drinking the night before or something where you are half-rooting for it to just thunderstorm at 5pm or something so you can go home early (lots of rainouts in Florida....lots of doublehaders too).

But that was just casual rooting.

Kind of like a Cinco de Mayo game on a Saturday that I wanted to be a quick one so I could go out and get margarita's.
The game went 19 innings and lasted until 1:30am and was one of the greatest games I had ever seen (with about 8 people in the stands at the end).
Yeah, I was originally hoping I could go out and party that night.
But I enjoy the baseball so much that if I'm stuck there instead I really don't care.

I had different sportscasting jobs that all paid very little but I loved my work every day and never got tired or bored with it. Always had a good time.

I can't say this is the same for everyone who works in baseball though.
You might be really enthused right now thinking about how you would be willing to do anything to be a part of it.

But the burnout and lack-of-sleep factor is incredibly high in many minor-league baseball offices imo.

Some of those 12-14 hour days (9am to 11pm) get old pretty damn fast and I'm pretty sure I couldn't do it no matter how much I loved being around it.

Many of my radio jobs I didn't have to do any sales or anything like that.
I could type up game-notes at home while watching The Price is Right, show up at the ball-park/office at 2 or 3pm (much to the jealousy of others in the office), and be off and running.

So I was able to work in minor-league baseball while still being able to get a normal amount of sleep which is not typical at all.
