[ QUOTE ]
They should do 10 and 20 yard trials to find better NFL caliber players. [/ QUOTE ] They do, there are 3 marks that the player is clocked at, its 10, 25, and 40. The only number you hear about from the media is the 40 but in each players portfolio they have those numbers in there. Go to a local D3/D2 college on a recruitment day, its fun to watch all the drills going on. |

Ginn ran 4.38 or something when he was injured.
He's got to be one of the fastest when healthy, Pretty sure he's cracked 4.20 |

This all assumes by "fastest player" you mean fastest 40 yard time as that is the only benchmark available. Personally I think this is silly as NFL plays rarely go 40 yards. They should do 10 and 20 yard trials to find better NFL caliber players. [/ QUOTE ] Not only that. In the NFL 40 yard dash, the player gets to start when he pleases. There is no gun. No starter telling the runner when to start. |

basically a summary of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40_yard_dash Fastest NFL player ever is either Michael Bennett(4.13) or Willie Gault (4.1 recorded in the 80's and probably hand timed). Deion Sanders has run a 4.16. Fastest of active player is DeAngelo Hall(4.15/4.24), Randy Moss(4.25 but he probably did this when he was younger). For reference the fastest man in the world, Asafa Powell runs the 40 in 3.9/4.0. This all assumes by "fastest player" you mean fastest 40 yard time as that is the only benchmark available. Personally I think this is silly as NFL plays rarely go 40 yards. They should do 10 and 20 yard trials to find better NFL caliber players. [/ QUOTE ] Michael Bennett is still active in the NFL. |
