Re: A more interesting baseball question
Ok here is one...
Yankees vs. Boston at Fenway. Score is 2-1 Bottom of the 9th 2 outs runner on third...Mo pitching to Ortiz. Ortiz hits a deep high ball to deep left CF. Damon running full speed reaches the low wall at the Sox bullpen, jumps up on it, dives into the bullpen and catches the ball in his glove-but he flings it back into the air as he falls to the ground. Bubba Crosby happens to be standing there watching this go down...and catches the ball on the otherside of the wall(the outfield). Damon never made contact with anything other than the top of the bullpen wall prior to throwing the ball back over the wall.... Is Ortiz out? How to you score this is the box score? |

Re: A more interesting baseball question
First off this is Bizarro world with the short wall being on the wrong side of the stadium.
Anyway, if the ball went to deep right-centre... Since neither Damon nor the ball never touched anything in foul territory Ortiz is out. It's an F8-9...unless the umpire rules Damon had the ball long enough to be considered an out...then it's F8. |

Re: A more interesting baseball question
This seems like it could easily happen with the way that wall is set up.
Of course you would need to very fast and limber CF and RF but if it was a playoff game etc...it would be awsome to say the least. |

<font color="white"> the player then reaches into the hat, takes the ball out with his hand, and displays it to the umpire. the umpire signals an out. at that point the runners must tag. </font> [/ QUOTE ] <font color="white"> the runners can tagup and advance as soon as the ball touches the hat. unless its a dead ball for using your uniform to stop the ball, which is illegal </font> |

Re: A more interesting baseball question
[ QUOTE ]
Something I was recently considering: Bottom of the 9th inning, 1 out, man on third, tie game. The batter hits a long fly to center. The center fielder, knowing that if he catches the ball, the runner will easily tag and score. Could the fielder purposely bobble the ball up to himself while he runs closer and closer to the infield while never gaining control of it until he gets close enough to throw the runner out if he tries to tag up? It seems like a decent strategy to me, I'm not sure why the winning run always scores so easily on these types of plays. [/ QUOTE ] you were really considering this? also, if it were legal, why only do it bottom of the 9th? do it every chance you get, stop runners from ever advancing. btw, the runners can tag and advance as soon as the ball is touched. |
