If Bob had 3-bet and the fish donked, then I'd agree that it's a fold. But since he just called, the fish is going to be less concerned about betting. Really, what's he think he's up against? Looks like a crappy ace and AK to him.

"when the bad player says, on the turn, "I have to call," and then donks the river,"

most often that's a draw they feel compelled to continue with.

none of that matters much. when the fish comments about having to call that's normally a strong tell they have a draw (oftentimes a backdoor flush draw usually with pair or straight draw as well) they cant fold. ive seen it a million times. too bad that wasnt the case this one time, but calling here will lose money over time.

I folded in disgust. Button called. Horrible Dummy showed Q 4 and won the dollars.

Good post. One of those catastrophic folds. Over thinking and basically trying to play too good is bad in big pots.

As played, mikel. insistince that a crying river call in that big pot is a long term loser is hard to believe. I think it's unquestionably a bad fold for one bet.

maybe youre right but my thousands of hours of live experience fwiw says he has a flush there significantly more times than the price the pot is laying hero. (plus hero still has the turn raising button to act behind him).

Hmmm, not in my experience. A guy on a draw just grits his teeth and cold-calls. Talking I find usually to be the sign of a hand already with value.

Anyway, I think Clarkie's point is a good one, when Bob doesn't 3-bet the turn villain would think his two pair could be good.

it should be noted that the river decision would be much easier had i not [censored] this hand up on the turn, which is a c/r.

if you intended on c/r turn are you still 3 pumping it after fish c/r it for you - on this board there are few combinations that we have beat that can c/r that turn... i think you would be in a worse spot on the turn if you tried to c/r - being results oriented we see this would have worked out great, but i dont think c/r 3balling on this board is that helpful unless the fish is the type who will c/r a draw even into an obvious call down and protected pot

Button likely has a big ace, maybe he picked up a flush draw as well. I'd 3-bet here.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I like your hand on the turn. Three-bet and put some pressure on them.
