Re: the worst managerial decisions s o far this year
[ QUOTE ]
Didn't BP mostly prove that lineup order isn't that big a deal? I mean it might be illogical, but would it really qualify as an "awful" decision? [/ QUOTE ] It's not a big deal unless it's a horrible mistake. Putting your worst hitter in the 3 spot is a horrible decision. Well, I guess it's not that bad since Gardenhire doesn't put high OBP guys at the top of the order Oh yea, and he continued to start Jacque Jones against lefties for what, 8 years? |

[ QUOTE ] Batting Mike Redmond third whenever Mauer has a day off? [/ QUOTE ] This has always bothered me. Gardenhire doesn't change his lineup order, only the players in his lineup. [/ QUOTE ] yeah its annoying his stupid 2b 3b C/DH(only when Mauer DHs) RF 1B CF LF DH SS lineup 90% of the time Mauer has bunted a couple times this year, a team that has been starting 5guys with below replacement level OPS is bunting the .465/.510 guy, lol expert |

Re: the worst managerial decisions s o far this year
I liked this sequence by John Gibbons
Kevin Youkilis: Strike looking, Ball, Ball, Strike looking, Foul, Ball, Youkilis fouled out to third. David Ortiz: Strike looking, Ortiz doubled to deep right. Manny Ramirez: Foul, Ball, Strike swinging, Ball, Ramirez grounded out to third. J.D. Drew: Intentional ball, Intentional ball, Intentional ball, Drew intentionally walked. Jason Varitek: Ball, Ball, Varitek flied out to left. Gibbons options if he wants to IBB Walk a better hitter and do it in a spot where we can force a gidp or pitch to a better hitter and walk the worse one when it won't force a GIDP. Also Halladay is a righty so Drew has a handedness advantage. Also IIRC he decided to switch lefty/righty on Manny later in the game and than pitched a righty against Drew, eventhough Drew hits much better against righties. I guess in two innings he changed his mind from Drew>Manny to Manny>Drew. Also Texas played a lineup of Wilkerson 1B Teixeira DH Sosa RF Hairston CF Cruz LF I don't think they could group those positions worse if they tried. |

Teixeira DH is an obvious one. Sosa CF probably is the next easiest one. Wilkerson RF Cruz LF Hairston 1b How'd I do? |

Did anyone see the play the other night where Sosa ran away from the ball?

Re: the worst managerial decisions s o far this year
Dosen't quite fit this thread, but I love the fact that Lou Pinella has no problem sacrificing his defense to tie the game/take the lead.
Pinella just PH for SS Cesar Izturis in the bottom of the 9th down 1. If the Cubs have to take the field again, either Alfonoso Soriano, Jason Marquis or Matt Murton will have to play the infield. Their was an extra inning game a few weeks ago that Marquis pinch ran when the Cubs were out of hitters. Pinella said after the game Marquis would've stayed in to play first base if they tied the game. |
