Re: Poker is a guilt trip for me.
Interesting post.
I've never played live, but I understand OP's feelings. Every day a see atleast two or three obvious compulsive gamblers at my online tables, and I do pity them. A few times I have actually shut down a table where a compulsive gambler just keeps reloading and stacking off every hand. Its -EV to leave, but i just do not want to watch. I don't think i could look retards in the eyes while taking their money. I would simply not play against the Arab guy you described. I don't judge anybody, but I'm not man enough to do it. |

Re: Poker is a guilt trip for me.
I was thinking about this again, maybe like once or twice guys will be like "oh, my kid loves thomas" when the guy is like a 60/5 drooler playing 5/10. Sometimes that can feel sorta dirty.

Not when playing on the interweb. [/ QUOTE ] I think live players deal with it a lot more. But when a fish starts talking about how their kids like my avatar or something, sometimes it can be a little awkward. I'll usually just chat with them a bit and be nice. People who berate fish (or anyone) are dumb. |

Maybe it'd be different if I played for a living but I can't watch when someone is clearly throwing away money he can't afford to lose. |

Re: Poker is a guilt trip for me.
when i played live a lot i would routinely take home hundos with writing on them, such as rent or groceries and other bills with just random marks. often, a player would buy chips from me and after goin on a hot run would request the exact bills back.

Re: Poker is a guilt trip for me.
I think we are doing the compulsive gamblers a huge FAVOR!
If it wern't for poker, they would still be loosing their $$ on casino games. However with poker, people get much more enjoyment per $ lost. Poker gives people a sense of sport, fair play, and excitement. Above all, while a gamboler might be compulsive they ususally despise the house, and would MUCH rather give their money to another player just out of spite. |
