i would have just left zagurski in. so what if it's a lefty/righty matchup. i'd rather that than suckass yoel hernandez in the game.

gah! if you need to PH for your DH then why the heck is he even on the roster???

They need to figure out who the regular left/3B are NOW. I don't care who they decide to put out there but these platoons aren't helping anyone.

What's wrong with the platoons? Why exactly do we need one guy to play almost every day at each position?

At third we have 3 players all who bring much different skillsets to the table, all of which can help up at different times depending on the makeup of the rest of the lineup and the pitcher who we're facing. I really still think Helms will snap out of whatever the heck it is that's gotten into him by the end of the season, and will be pretty valuable vs. LHP.

All I have to say about LF is that if the Phillies make it to the playoffs or have a key game late in the season to clinch a playoff spot...I really hope Charlie doesn't leave Burrell in to play the field in the 9th so he can be on the field to celebrate with the team

If he was matching up lefty vs righty that would be fine. It seems to me that instead he's going with whoever is hot and trying to get EQUAL playing time to all three. The only reason to have a 3 man plantoon is you can't decide who to play. Pick one to always face lefties and pick one to always face righties. He hasn't done this.

All,

Manuel is an idiot. As soon as you just completely accept this fact, cheering for the Phillies becomes much easier and less stressful.

nothing wrong with a platoon. however, there is no rhyme or reason behind who he plays when.

btw, i think dobbs should play every day. he's pretty clearly better than the rest of them (the pitch he hit for a double the other way yesterday would have been a weak ground ball or swing and a miss for the others).

Dobbs plays against every righty. Hard to say how he'd do against lefties (24 ABs in his career), but probably not too well based on usual platoon splits.

Except when Nunez plays. Manuel's been able to fudge it lately with AL teams and the DH. Thats over now.

Nunez is hitting over .300 against lefties and is very good defensively, Dobbs clearly should be the starter against righties and Wes Helms can go home.

Nunez is hitting .286 against lefties, with a .702 OPS. Over the previous 3 years he had a .602 OPS against lefties. I'm holding out hope that Helms can start hitting lefties like he usually does.

With regards to Dobbs, when is the last time he didn't start against a righty?
