Also interesting is how oot accepted the most recent split with little or no fuss, and have continued to remain passive in the face of the obvious damage caused. Astonishing given their past record.

And do people also feel the traffic reduc in oot has any other factors?

There must be a difference between threads going to a good forum (EDGD) and a terrible forum (TL;DR).

All,

What's the surprise here?

First OOT used to be three categories of stuff:

1) Politics
2) Sports
3) Other stuff

This was an overwhelming volume of stuff for many people, and different people liked different segments of those posts.

So 1 and 2 were split off and OOT developed around category 3.

Then OOT used to be three categories of stuff:

1) Really in-depth discussion threads (10%ish)
2) A bunch of middle of the road informational/discussion threads, trip reports, questions, polls, entertainment threads, reviews, funny posts, etc. (50%ish)
3) BBV-style stuff (40%ish)

Once again, this was an overwhelming volume of stuff for many people, and different people liked different segments of those posts.

So more splits occurred.

Now, much of #1 goes in Diablo forum. Much of #3 goes to BBV/BBV4L. Obviously, 1 and 3 still exist to a degree in OOT. But OOT is really solidifying its current image around the type of content in category 2.

Same cycle occurred w/ BBV which resulted in BBV/BBV4L. Same cycle will continue occurring as the forums grow.

db,

"Also interesting is how oot accepted the most recent split with little or no fuss, and have continued to remain passive in the face of the obvious damage caused. Astonishing given their past record."

Are you trying to make a point here? If so, what is it?

Gild,

BTW, congrats for helping BBV/BBV4L create an identity that works as a nice parallel to OOT w/ a different and distinct tone/focus that suits a different (but overlapping) audience.

Gildwulf,

If you remove terrible "aments" posts from the forum counts I bet OOT is still solidly in front.

I found it interesting, and wondered what others thought. I'm hoping it's a sea change in how new forum creation/testing goes down in future, rather than the divisive and combative approach taken by some when new forums were suggested before this.

Forum creation/testing ideas do seem to be taken and discussed in a more thoughtful and reasonable way since El D Forum split, IMHO. This can only be good.

Daryn, wasn't my intention to rag on OOT at all. OOT's fine IMO.
